hello, I have had a male chinchilla for a year and I want to get some company for him in order for him not to be alone.. I tried to get a male one last year but it did not work out as I expected things to be normal quickly and I rushed things..But the thing is that I do not want to get a female one as they will reproduce and I cannot be sure if I will find a trustworty person to give the babies. I would like to underline in this point that I live in Greece and castration is not safe and can be fatal. Please help meeee... Thanks!

If he fights with a new male, it's entirely possible that he just doesn't want a roomie. You may think he's lonely, but he may be perfectly happy on his own.

He is very possessive with his "territory". I may think that he needs a friend while he is happy like this.. I just do not want him to be sad...

Yeah, rushing an introduction isn't a good thing. If you look in the FAQ section, you will see how to properly introduce two chinchillas. Tunes is right though, there are some chins that simply don't want to be with another. It's just their personality. You could try again, but be prepared that it might not work out and you will need to house the other one separately. I have a male that's by himself and I never bothered getting a friend because I am afraid of them fighting. I don't want to risk it. Just make sure your chin has plenty of toys, sticks, and interaction time with you and he should be fine.
