Does this bug anyone else as much as it bugs me? Every time you see some starlet at a red carpet event their dress is WAY to long. What the heck is up with that? No woman is 7 feet tall in the movie or model industry so what's up with all these designers not hemming their expensive gowns? It just looks ridiculous to see all these gorgeous dresses and them pooling on the floor in a mass heap? This just really drives me nuts!

I think some of the longer dresses are pretty. Although short ones are gorgeous too....as long as they are too short.

I think the long ones tend to have a more 'elegant' and 'beautiful' look, while the shorter ones are 'cute' and 'pretty'. JMHO... :)

I think Laurie is referring to the fact that the dresses seem to be TOOOO long for the person. Not that she doesn't like long dresses, but the fact that it appears that they have an extra 3 feet of fabric at the bottom of the dresses. I think that's what shes referring to, and I have to agree with you Laurie. It bugs me too!

Ohhhh, alright.... I agree. :)

Are you talking about something like this?:

Yeah, I'm not getting that either Laurie. That picture above is a perfect example too. Wouldn't that be a horrible pain in the butt just to walk? How about taking your life in your hands going up or down stairs? Do you really WANT to have to walk around all night hiking your skirt up?

Seriously, it looks like either she shrunk on the way to the ball, or she got into her mom's closet and stole her dress to play dress up.

I think this one takes the cake...

And I don't understand it either. I would fall on my face or at least get twisted up in it.

That does look silly. Makes them look short and like they took off their high heels or something.

LOL Parka that made me laugh out loud. haha

Well, maybe its a "style" to have long dresses, or they don't want to cut/alter such expensive and extravagant dresses? Could be something like at a fancy restaurant you shouldn't ask for salt, pepper, ketchup since it'll insult the chef. Perhaps they don't want to do something to change dress. I have no idea, but when I went to a denim warehouse sale that had all the top brands of jeans, they were (not joking) about one foot too long on me! I know I'm a shortie at almost 5'2", but common! I'm use to jeans being 2-4" long on me, and they normally fit my best friend perfectly, but even she was shocked that she would have to get those jeans hemmed!!

How many of you (women) are 6'2" or taller?!? haha

Carrie Underwood kind of looks like a cake - you know, those ones that used to be so popular with the barbie sticking out the top and her skirt was the cake.

Oh!! I remember those cakes! Too funny..

I'm 5'4" but I have to have everything hemmed, it's really annoying. I can't understand anything the seamstress says except "one hip bigger than other" which she has said every time I've had pants altered. Sometimes I can get away with it with heels, but seriously, my natural inseam with normal shoes is 29.5-30". The inseam on a lot of the model-type jeans is 32-34". Go look at a VS catalog and you'll see what I mean. Petite inseams are just a little too short and regular are just a little too long. I feel your pain, seriously. Ok, end rant.

On the topic of dresses.. one time when I was at the seamstress, some girl came in with her prom dress. It was long like the ones we're making fun of, but she wanted it hemmed into something like a miniskirt--midthigh--and her mom was encouraging her to do it. AUGH!

Both the Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood pics are great examples. Those dresses are really very beautiful but they don't look like they are finished! Just think about it, would your mom ever let you leave the house with your dress dragging on the floor? Ridiculous. But then again a lot of high fashion to me is just plain ridiculous. No "regular" person would wear half the stuff their strut their stuff in on the runway!

I don't believe many pick their own clothes out, though. Which, imo, is a shame. But I do recall seeing on TV that Taylor said she loves the various dresses she gets to wear now, but that was more for her music videos. I dunno. I guess it falls in line too, with those bridal dresses with huge trains and stuffThose don't make sense to me, either.

I agree. I'm not an avid fashion follower, or whatever you call it, but I have caught a glimpse of one fashion show on the TV and the theme was hawiian-ish. It looked hideous, chocolate dresses, feather shorts, funky hats. It just looked... stupid, for lack of a stupider word.

I think it's sad to me that fashion matters so much to some people. Like yeah, I want to look somewhat good, but not to the point where I'll wear feather shorts or look like a ridiculous model in order to be 'fashionable'.
