Hi. Maybe this is a frequently asked question, and if so, sorry for not having investigated b4 posting.

Currently, I have multiple different sized cages for my chins. Most of them has wooden shelves that I purchased from a breeder. Since the cage sizes are different, they needed to be measured individually.

A few of the cages that I have do have some plastic shelves, and some of the people on this forum suggested me to get rid of them right away. Chins chew on them, and they might swallow big chunks of them.

So, I need some wooden shelves. I am tired of measuring, and few of the cages are kind of torn by chins. (They chewed plastic parts of the cages).

I know. It's baaaaad.
So, I am thinking of buying FNs, because many suppliers and breeders know the measurement, and I think that some of them actually make wood shelves and sell them. It would be easier for me.

So, let me know of anybody who is selling wood shelves and other accessories made to suit FNs.

Thanks.

The only one that I know that make custom shelves and not too expensive either is simply chintastic (www.simplychintastic.com) They made my shelves with the edges on them. It took a little while but they were totally worth the wait. I believe some members here make custom shelves as well. Cat75 used to but I don't think they make them anymore :(.

I know everybody likes them, but if you want your shelves any time soon, I would skip ordering from the place Sandy linked to above. I know of someone who ordered a simple house and it took them 4 or 5 months to get it. That's just ridiculous, I'm sorry.

There are other people who can cut shelves for you, or you can just order them from the local lumberyard cut to size. Then all you would need to do is add the hardware and you'd be good to go. It would be a ton cheaper to do them yourself.

Oh really, 4-5 months? Ouch! Yep, look in the "chin Supply Store List" in the classifieds as well.

Good chioce on the FN. I have 3 and I made all the shelves in them. Making them is easy in my opinion - if you have a saw, drill, and screwdriver (and some sandpaper if you're meticulous.) An 8 inch wide by 8 feet long pine board is like $10 at Lowes.

If you want to do them yourself I can help with any questions you have. Or I can make them for you but I do not use hanger bolts. I use a pan head screw to save a little money. I also cut out the notch if it is a shelf that goes in one of the corners; FNs have the main tube that protrides into the cage about 0.5" along the back corner.

I live around the same around as you, and I can tell you that I can go to Home Depot or Lowes and get wood cut for free. I then head over to ACE Hardware and get the screws/washer etc because I like the finder washers from ACE and everything is cheaper there anyway. I am in the Fairfax area, if you need any advice on places to go just let me know, you will save a lot of money making your own shelves.

Suzi I also go to ACE for the hardware and they are nice as heck! Wow I didn't know Lowe's cut the wood for free! I've been having my brother in law cut the wood for me! Shhhh don't tell him!

I think Tiffany (threewingedfury) does them as well.

I do! I can make them the entire length of the FN (35"), the side of the FN (23") or just regular small ledges (12", 8" and 3"). I use 2" boards though, so they're extremely heavy and I don't ship the larger ledges BUT I see that you're in DC and I will be traveling through DC on the 17th of this month. Just an option ;-)

I agree with everyone else.. just get the wood and its easy do it yourself. I've made over 20 some shelves myself already. I don't measure the shelves most of the time.. I have longer ons, small ones, medium ones.. FNs are big enough to mess around with sizes
