Hello. We just got back from the Ewen show, and it was a great experience. I had a question I have been wondering about though. In the show book it lists all the color phase categories. What is the difference between a White with dark hair, and silver?

I"m assuming you are referring to a white with dark guard hairs and a "silver". Silvers are actually very rare to find just floating around. Either way, a silver has black tips on their fur, where as a white with dark guard hairs has all dark hairs in the fur.

It could also be referring to pattern, as silvers are tipped all over with no white except their belly.

I am going to assume the show was a MCBA show? They have different color classifications that ECBC and I am not as familiar with them, I'm sure someone else will know more.

I can tell you that ECBC classifies as pink eared whites ( pink whites ) and dark eared whites ( all other whites aka mosaics )

Yeah it was MCBA. The classifications for white in my book are 1. Predominately White (which I assume is Wilson white right?) 2. White with Dark Hair 3.White with Pink&Beige 4. White Mosaic or Broken pattern and 5. Silver

So are Silvers more grey in overall appearence with a crisp white belly? Are they really rare? I don't think there were any silvers at the show today.

A silver has a a silve -grey underfur, whereas most whites have a white underfur. You do not see many that have a uniform silver underfur.
White with dark guard hair is a white animal with dark tips. The longer guard hairs are grey to black and stick out over the top of the rest of the hair.
You really don't see many predominantly whites either as most animals these days are moasics, which is any broken pattern - a spot of grey anywhere, etc. Predominantly white is just that - white with no grey, black, silver, etc.
