The chinchilla I am planning to get is under 6 months old, and I know that before 6 months people recommend not even getting a wheel. At first i was planning on getting this cage starter set from qualitycage;

But now that I am thinking about it, should I just get this cage without the wheel & save some money for now?;

That way I could just buy the wheel when he/she turns 6months old

i personally like the first one better but just take the wheel out until 6 months but i think the second one is a way better deal

i would get the second choice. and just get the wheel later on. you don't NEED a wheel, it's just if you want to get them one you can. i'd get the wheel later on though. that way your not spending so much on the cage, and your able to get other accessories, toys, and what not for your chinnie that'd you'd need right now. :)

i would take a look on your local craigslist or other online classifieds first, before deciding on a brand new cage purchase. personally, i would go with the ferret nation cage - a bit more room, doors open wide up across the whole cage front for easy cleaning, and the ability to turn the ferret nation 142 into two cages if need be down the road (if you get a second chin some day).

Thanks for all the input everyone! I will be ordering the Quality Cage without the wheel this monday. I'm so excited to start decorating! &I really love how helpful everyone on this forum is.;)

If you want to save more money, I'd go with a different cage completely, but obviously that decision is up to you. Just wanted to let you know though if you DO want a better deal, we can all help you figure out what cage to get so you get the most for your money and have extra to fill it up with :)

honestly, i wouldnt get either of them. For $2-300+ i think your getting ripped off. If you have that kinda money to put towards it, id consider a Ferret Nation cage. Imo, they wouldbe a lot better. I use two myself for my 5 chins, and their great. They have a lot more room then either of those two cages show. And their not that graded wire either. I would honestly consider looking into FN.

I know, i really wanted the FN but the space i'm putting it in is just a few inches short of its 36 inch length

I disagree, Godofgods. Quality Cages puts out some really nice cages. They are well built and sturdy. they can even be stacked on top of each other. I own several and I really like them. They really are worth the money.

i think i have the qc in the first link, it came with alot of fun things for my chin. One thing id say is if it comes with the same plastic food holder id toss it and get a better one, chins will eat up any plastic. Other than that the chin spin is amazing and so is the little house. Easy to clean both of them from pee and poo. If your having money trouble though id go with the second one and get some of the toys that people on this forum sell. Tons of fleece and chew toys :p

Yes, Godofgods, the ones in those links are just fine. I have some of them. there is nothing wrong with them and they will last a long time.

I agree. I went with the QC Mansion when I got my chins. For the price, I was afraid of what the quality was going to be like. They look cheap in the pics. But when it arrived, I was really amazed how thick and solid the wire was and everything. It has to be to hold up that heavy ChinSpin! :) If I had to buy another cage, I would buy another QC.

I wonder if you took off the wheels or even the bottom rack of an FN, if it would fit in the space. It'd be hard to move around though.

well thats good. When i was but a kid i had four ferrets in a wire cage that wasn't even suitable for 1. And i still feel horrible about it to this day. So i have a bit of a prejudice toward wire cages altogether.

Having more animals in a cage than is safe or recommended has nothing to do with what material the cage is constructed of. That statement makes absolutely no sense.

It does to me'
It was a small wire cage. But the whole thing was wire. It had to be uncomforatable for the ferrets. Of course at the time i was maybe 10 yo or younger, so its not like i was the one doing it or doing it on purpose. But none the less, i hate the idea of having a pet now if its goin to be uncomfortable like that. So any time i see a wire cage, that always comes to mind.

YOU are on a forum where EVERYONE needs to understand what you're saying. You may want to consider trying to be conscious of that occasionally. I, for one, would appreciate it more than you realize.

Quality Cages are some of the more popular cages among chinchilla owners, which is why quite a few members on here have them. There's a search feature at the top that you can always use if you're not sure about your advice, GodofGods. I'm sure it would help to minimize confusion for the OP as well.
