NOLA Chins
Guest
We have had a few chins come in that have never been given hay with any regularity or at all. Most have no problem chowing down but there have been a couple that just would not eat hay. I tried something with good results. They were fed a mix (50/50) of Oxbow Chin Deluxe (alfalfa based) and Oxbow Cavy Cusine (timmy based pellet). There was an almost immediate increase in the size and quality of their fecal pellets - the reason in the first place for feeding the mix. However, both chins (a 5+ y/o female and a 4 y/o male) started eating timmy hay after a while. The female took about a month and the male about a week. This was after not eating hay for over a month after coming to us. Might be worth a try if you have a similar problem.
We do consider not eating hay a serious symptom and all the chins are examined and x-rayed as necessary. The above is just something to try if you want.
