Once its debarked here it gets trashed, unless its a really big piece on a hanging toy. Safira turns all her sticks into spears and then stores them in her tube.... yes shes my oddball :)

I just throw the debarked in the next cage. To that chin it's a brand new toy all over.

Some I drill and string on things. Some of my 3-4" thick log perches have been around for more than 10 years. Once apple wood hits 3 years it's fully cured and extremely hard. Just clean them once a year and they're brand new.

My chins love to de-bark the wood and throw the rest on the floor, but unlike some others chins, they will eat the rest..eventually. But only after I "doctor" it up a bit. I gather up the twigs and stuff that they throw on the ground and throw them in the bin of rose petals and let them sit in there for a few days and once they have that scent on them, I make toys out them. My chins love them and its a great way to reuse wood, too.

That's a great idea, I'm going to do that now! I usually hang old wood if it's thick enough, but I've just been throwing out the twigs and small sticks bc I didn't know how to reuse them.
