What's the use of covering one side of the cage when 2cages are side by side?

So I was looking at the cage setups and I noticed that some people who had 2 or more cages put side by side had one side of it covered with fleece as if to block them from seeing each other.
Do chins get mad and go crazy even at a neighbor?
As u all know, I'm gonna be getting another cage for my girls next to my boys, I was wondering if it would be better if I also blocked one side of their cage off.
So they won't see each other, or doesn't really matter since they can smell their existence anyway?
Still learning to be a multiple chin owner :)

If you have the cages close enough together, they can actually breed through the bars, so be careful. LOL. ;)

Nah, my boys were neutered 6yrs ago, so I am not really worried about them having babies, but they might go crazy thinking mummy doesn't love them anymore. It's more their behavior I am worried about.

Wait and see how it goes. I have to hang fleece between some cages for exactly the reason you mentioned. Some of mine bicker and chatter at each other if they can see each other. I just helps keep the peace.

If this is what you're concerned about, having a sheet up blocking them or not, they're still going to know the other is there. They can hear and smell them near by, even if they're in another room. Its just something they will have to get used to. I terms of trying to get everyone accustomed to another chin in the house, what I found works is having them in separate parts of the house for a while (you should be quarantining new animals anyways) first.

Yes they will be in another room for a month after they come home, but when I do put their cages together after that.
I'll see how they go, hopefully they will be friendly to each other and share hay thru the cages bars heehee.

Fuzzy hates when he can see other chins next to him, and goes bananas so I do it to make sure he stays calm.

I have fleece between my cages as well. Most of my chins don't like their neighbors so it just makes for a less stressful room

I have 2 boys next to 2 girls so I use a piece of cardboard in between which seems to work for me.

I use cardboard between some of my cages because some of my females have a hissy fit if they see other females/males close by. They even will attack their mate if they see another. The cardboard between cages calms them. I guess it is 'out of site, out of mind' for them even though they must know there are chins on the other side.

Okies, thanks for the advice, I will keep an eye on them when the girls move in, chins are such interesting little creatures haha.

I would have one less chinchilla if I didn't have a separator between my cages.
My male and female couple had a total of thee kits. I had to separate them so she didn't have more. Naturally putting father/son in one cage, and mother/daughters in the other cage.

Well my male was not happy about not being able to get to his girl. One day when she was out to play and he could see her from inside his cage, he started going absolutely crazy wanting to reach her. And he started losing control of his body and collapsed.

Long story short, he has a heart murmur and seems pron to seizures. They have only manifested when he sees his girl but is unable to get to her.

Obviously i do not want that to happen again. So i have to keep a divider between the cages. And take special precautions when they come out. Its sad that he cant see her again, but the alternative is so much worse.
