Im trying to gather all the thing i need before i bring home my new babies. Id like to know what kind of dust is best and wheres the best place to get it? Also, what supplement does everyone like? I found the recipes for a supplement on Jim Ritterspach's website and thought about getting the ingredients for that. What does everyone think about that recipe he has??
Thanks in advance for all your help

You don't NEED to use a supplement. There are many people who don't. If I had to choose though, I would go with Ryerson's, mainly because it's been tested many, many years on thousands and thousands of chins. To me, that shows that it is safe and not just something thrown together.

As far as dust, the very best is Blue Cloud and after that Blue Sparkle.

ETA: I went and looked at the site, and no, I would not feed those supplements, mainly because of the sunflower seeds. I see no purpose to them healthwise to a chin and have had it hammered into my head by my mentor who is also a vet - no nuts for chins, period. I was told they are too high in fat and can cause liver issues. It seems like every time you turn around now, when a chin dies and a necropsy is done, the first thing they say is liver issues. I'm not going to risk that. I think otherwise the supplements are fine, I would just leave out the seeds.

Treatwise? Apricots have pits. You are never supposed to feed an animal anything with a pit. We are also not huge advocators of raisins/craisins on this website. They are loaded with sugar and they are just not necessary. There are other treats that are better, and safer, for your chin.

Bite sized, non-sugared shredded wheat.
Dried rosehips.
The occasional cheerio.
A pinch of old fashioned oats.
Lots of wood chews that are safe for chins: http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34

I just wanted to add...sorry Peggy. :p

ONE treat a day or no treat. They don't need them, they enjoy them and we enjoy watching the chins eat them. So, if you must give a treat, just give one nice bland treat that will not cause digestive upset or other problems.

My chins like the shreddies...and rosehips sometimes. Honestly, there are chins here that haven't gotten a treat in weeks, maybe months. I sneak treats to a few chins so that everyone doesn't need one. That just ends up getting time consuming, plus by the time I am finished giving just a few of them a treat someone always convinces me that he or she has not gotten a treat. :) Chins are pure evil. :D

Thank you so much for your advice...im hoping for more advice as well. Is the blue sparkle dust the one that has the little sparkle glitter in it? Not sure yet about that but where is the best place to buy dust?

No apology needed, I'm with you Susan. If I give treats at all, it's the very occasional rosehip or shredded wheat. I usually just give wood chews and they love them.

Yes, the blue sparkle has what looks like glitter in it. You can get the blue cloud (or the sparkle) from several members on here who sell it in the classifieds, as well as through several ranchers. You might even be able to find someone nearby that has it and can sell it to you without needing to ship it, depending on where you live.
