I have lost (hopefully temporarily) my notebook with all my chins weights. I wanted to go back and look at a few of the rescues and see what their average weight gain was.

So what is a good weight gain over a weekly period??

Chewy has been here 2 weeks, he weighed in at 480. After the first week, he actually lost weight, he was 475, I think because of all the stress and because whatever he was eating was probably junk and he did not take to my food right away.

I weighed him tonight and he was about 500 g, which means in about 1 week, techinically he gained 25 grams.

Is that average? I have been adding a small pinch of oats IN his food, kinda hoping it will entice him and since I have been doing that he is definitely eating the pellets.

It depends on the chin's metabolism, the diet they had previously, the current diet, activity level, and how underweight they were to start with. Generally, they will gain slow and steady but the rescues I took in last June which were in the 303 and 341 g to begin with (they were severely underweight and in horrible condition) gained 10 g in the first 4 days and then about 10-15 g a week after that. Every chin is different but as long as there is some increase in weight, things are looking good.
