What do you use for a dust house?

I use hexagonal summer beverage dispensers (about 1 gallon size) from TJ Maxx. They're made of glass, and when they are laid on their sides they don't roll around! I took out the plastic spigots and filled the hole with a short stainless steel bolt, nut and washers. I also fashioned a flange/gasket/door contraption out of fleece to serve as a door to try to cut down on dust flying everywhere!

I seem to be the only one who uses the ceramic chinchilla bath you can buy at pet supply stores. It looks like it has ears and comes in a couple different colors. My chins like it, but they try to jump in 2 at a time and it's not big enough! It's a little hard to get them out when they don't wanna budge too!

I am using three of these ones. I ordered six from Dr. Foster and Smith online, and three delivered BROKE. They were not wrapped well. Of courseI returned them with prepaid shipping lable by them.

The dust bathes came in all different colors, and I wish I could have had all six: Yellow, purple, pink, light green, etc. They are cute.

A bit small, in my opinion, but I put them in the playpen, and my chins love to get on top of them and play, too.

That is the one I was leaning towards getting.

I have also looked at glass jars on and off when I am shopping. I think what has stopped me from getting one is I don't know how big it is supposed to be.

Also...how much dust do you put in there...just a little?

I'm getting excited now, I finally started sewing some of the fleece stuff yesterday. I'm getting closer and closer to being ready for a chin!

The ceramic one with ears is quite small- I'd only recommend it for kits, really.

In the past, I have used a 1gallon fishbowl with great success. Now, I actually use the really popular Super Pet plastic dust house, as my chins only get dust for a few minutes at a time, so they don't get an opportunity to chew the plastic.

Anything that keeps the dust semi-contained is, in my opinion, a good dust container.

About Dust: I like to put in about 3/4 to an inch-worth if dust (Blue Cloud), depth-wise. You can re-use dust if the chins don't pee in it, and you strain out the poos.

I use old square glass jars that Ronda was kind enough to let me have. They work great! Wish I could find a few more. I also use pickle jars, but they tend to roll so I wedge them against the side of the cage. I like the square glass jars better.

Can someone give me an idea on what a good size would be in diameter of opening, height, length. Estimates are fine, just an idea so I can look around when I go to the store and see what I can come up with.
