What do you use for a dust house?

Just curious what everyone uses....

What size, etc. I know I have seen anything from covered litter boxes to the plastic houses they sell.

I use the plastic bath house that you see in your petco or petsmart by superpet. I throw out the dust that comes with it and put in a couple teaspoons of blue cloud and let them go for it. They love it and it's big enough for both of my 4 month old boys to get in it together.

I use the plastic house you find at the petstore. It keeps the dust in when Shelly is rolling around.

That's what I used when I had a chin. When I get my new babies I'll probably use the same thing or find one of those old fashioned candy jars that lay on their side :)

I use either dust pans from Ryerson's or metal bread pans.

One thing to consider with plastic, if it gets any kind of crack or chip in it, it's a great place for bacteria to breed. It's almost impossible to sterilize it as well. If I had the room, I'd use glass for mine, but storage is impossible with this many chins. It would be nice though to periodically pop them in the dishwasher for a good cleaning.

The old fashioned cookie jars work well at keeping the dust in also and can be sterilized easily and are inexpensive. You can find cheap glass containers & cookie jars at hobby lobby or even at yard sales. You can use all different containers but it is nice to have the dust contained as much as possible. I've even used vases on their sides and it works fine but you need to make sure its not going to roll around as they roll too!

I use a wide mouth cookie jar (almost like a fish-bowl), that way I can clean it out easily and it provides enough ventilation for the chins when they are rolling around in all that dust.

Mine is also a cookie jar. It has a metal lid, and its from Walmart (maybe $5??). I've had it for years, and it works great!

I have metal dusters, ceramic dusters, some glass dusters and a couple of little thick glass fishbowls that I use. I love glass and ceramic because I can run them through the dishwasher and clean them. The metal dusters are hard to sanitize because they tend to rust if run through the dishwasher. I don't have any plastic dusters at all...when I end up with them, I bleach them and give them away to new chin owners so that they don't have to pay for them at the store. $15 to $20 for those is so expensive! I tell people to use whatever contains the dust to their liking.

I have tried a variety of things and am currently using a flat storage container. It's about12"wX8"dX6"h. It has a locking lid for when it's not in use. We'll see how long it takes me to decide I don't like it and try something else. :)

I've used the plastic dust houses but I didn't like storing it open. I've used the candy jar/fish bowl sort of thing that had a metal cover but it didn't seem big enough for my fattest girl to really be able to roll in. I've used a plastic shoe box storage kind of thing but thought it wasn't big enough, either.

I have some of those plastic dust houses, but typically don't use them. What usually gets used are metal dusters, or I also have a 9x9 metal baking pan that's maybe 2-3" tall that I use. That way the fatties can roll around no problem..... and no one can decide they don't want to come out of the duster when I decide it's time to take it out.

We've been using gallon sized pickle jars.
When you lay them on the side, you can watch the chins dust bathe, but the powder is more contained than with an open top duster.

I seem to be the only one who uses the ceramic chinchilla bath you can buy at pet supply stores. It looks like it has ears and comes in a couple different colors. My chins like it, but they try to jump in 2 at a time and it's not big enough! It's a little hard to get them out when they don't wanna budge too!

I am using three of these ones. I ordered six from Dr. Foster and Smith online, and three delivered BROKE. They were not wrapped well. Of courseI returned them with prepaid shipping lable by them.

The dust bathes came in all different colors, and I wish I could have had all six: Yellow, purple, pink, light green, etc. They are cute.

A bit small, in my opinion, but I put them in the playpen, and my chins love to get on top of them and play, too.

I used a glass baking pan until recently. My daughter got ahold of it and broke it. :(

So I'm using a large plastic bowl for the time being. I'd like to find one of those cute ceramic ones that QMC had up for a bit...but haven't been able to locate any.
