I don't see anything horrible about this cage. I'd take out the wire shelves and replace them with wooden ones. It looks decently large. Might be a pain to clean with such a small door. Also you need to make sure there's no way for the chinchilla to push the bottom out and escape.

that small door could make cleaning the cage difficult, as well as making it difficult to reach in and pick up your chin.

if the white coating on the wire is plastic or rubbery, then i would not use this cage with chins - they could chew off the coating and eat it and get sick.

other than those cons, the cage size looks ok for one chin in my opinion.

I agree with what has been said already. I think my biggest complaint would be the size of the door. It can really make it difficult to get into the cage for cleaning, or for adding shelves, which would be the next improvement I would do. Replacing the wire shelves with a lot of wood shelves/ledges.

There is no plastic coating on it.. It just the color of the cage.

Ok, thanks for all you input.. Why do I have to replace the wire shelves into wood?? It just that long ago I had cage like that, and it was given from someone that knew about chinchillas.

It has a wire on the bottom, there no way to push out...

the spacing on wire shelves is just the right size usually to trap chin toes in. this is why we recommend replacing wire shelves with wood. the added benefit of wood shelves is another thing for your chin to chew on - wearing down those teeth is very important!

What should the spacing be?? Maybe I can hook up my own.. On them..

yea I know, I use to buy those apple sticks for my chin back in the days.. Also wood toys from peep on here..

Now I am starting all over again....

Thanks for your help.. Hope you can help me see what spacing I could put on the cage..

You probably want to keep the wire spacing to no larger than 1/2"x1/2". If it's larger, take it out and replace it with wire with smaller spacing or wood.

Since you're in Arizona (probably Phoenix, right), you can check out my website at http://chinstore.azchins.com/ I have toys and things and have delivery trips to Phoenix (next one is April 7th) and trips to Tucson every wednesday or thursday for deliveries. I can make whatever type of toys you'd like - I have pecan, yucca, ocotillo and other wood for toys and I can make the toys whatever colors you'd like.

Ok! I notice that the spacing the length is not 1/2 inch. :( And I think i am going to have to replace the shelves and the bottom shelve tooo!
