I got my water buddy a lil while ago and i decided i should put it in the dishwasher instead of hnadwashing. Is that alright to do with it? Do i just put it in there or do i remove anything? And do i still use dish soap in there? Thanks

I don't think it would really clean it very well in the dishwasher. The opening of the waterbuddy is sort of small. Honestly, it's better to clean them by hand with a little bleach and a bottle brush. Rinse it a few times, rinse the nozzle a bunch, too. The dishwasher won't clean out the nozzle and valve...you'll need to do that.

Even if you put it in the dishwasher you still have to rinse it out real good, with any bottles that I put in the dishwasher there is always some dry soapy water spots inside the bottles.

And, the little bits of "food soil" that sticks to everything in the dishwasher on occasion. Ick. Any type of little particles can get bacteria growing as whatever those little particles are decompose.

I wash about 130 waterbottles by hand every week. It's a really tough job, but I know that the bottles are squeaky clean and I don't have to worry as much.

It is dishwasher safe. I run mine through the dishwasher whenever I run it (which only happens when I've been lazy about dishes all week, since one person doesn't generate enough dishes to run the machine every day or every other day). The heat helps sterilize it. Open and remove lid, which I hook over a spike in the dishwasher with the flat side up (or else water pools in the lid).

Otherwise I wash by hand every few days with soap and hot water, and play with the nozzle to let some soapy water run through it. Then rinse thoroughly, play with nozzle some more. If it's already out, I'll run bleach through it too, but I'm usually too lazy for that step. I run lots of hot clean water through to make sure I don't have any soap left.

I like the nozzle for function, but don't like it for cleaning. It's pretty much impossible to clean regardless of method chosen. I like the wide opening - way better than traditional water bottles for cleaning.

You can always use a bottle brush to clean it as well. My nearby dollar store sells baby bottle brushes and I just use one to help clean the inside of the bottle.
