I've heard you should start weaning the babies at 4 weeks old. They will be 4 weeks next week so I'd like some tips on weaning them. the best way of getting their food soft enough for them is my main concern. Thanks Nikki

Not taking to food

I'm trying them on mamma's food but I leave it to soak in water for 20 minutes so it's nice and soft. The babies have tried it a couple of times and anointed themselves with it but they are still very dependant on mamma's milk. Mom's getting annoyed by them now. Any information or tips on weaning would be helpful. Thanks Nikki

At 4 weeks the babies should be starting to crunch kibble. Many breeders use Royal Canin Baby cat which is small hedgie sized kibble and easy for the babies to wean on to. If you aren't using it, you will need to break up the kibble mom is eating. I've never dampened it.

Are you certain they aren't trying to eat the food? When you have them out for socialization, try offering some small pieces.

I did what Nancy suggested with my little ones, and they loved the Baby cat! I think it was around 4 weeks of age when they started to nibble on it, maybe even 5 weeks actually.

Being sneaky

I was so proud last night. I went out and didn't come in till about 1am and when I switched the light on all the babies were out of their bed and eating the kibble I had left for them. I think they were being sneaky lol
