How do you get a newly separated Kit to drink from the water bottle, i am afraid that it wont drink and something will happen to it

They should be drinking before they ever leave mom. I've seen kits at a week old licking at the bottle, so by weaning, they should be well able to handle it.

Most likely he's already drinking from the bottle, you just haven't caught him at it.

ive been checking the water level and it doesnt seem to go down, im kind of worried

Ditto on what Tunes said, if your worried about the kit drinking from it, mark the water line on the outside of the water bottle with a sharpie. Check every hour or so to make sure she's drinking. She should be fine.

I agree with marking the outside of the waterbottle to make sure it is or isn't moving. If you don't want to make it permanent, use some masking tape. Or if it's glass use washable marker.

Chins generally don't drink much. Did you ever see the kit drinking when it was in with mom? And is it the same type of water bottle? Can you get water to come out, or is there a vacuum where it won't let water out?

Wet erase markers are great for marking water levels because you can rinse off the markings when you clean your bottles. You know, the type that our high school teachers and college professors used on the overhead transparencies. I use these on my waterbottles to mark them so that I know which bottles have been cleaned and on what date. You can buy them at an office supply store.

Most chins only drink one to maybe three ounces of water a day. A newly weaned kit will probably only drink an ounce a day. If there was a waterbottle with the kit and mom, he knows how to drink from it. They learn a lot of things from their mamas including where to find water. By three weeks of age most chins are getting at least some of their hydration from the waterbottle and not just from mamas.

I just got 2 girls last week and i bought a superpet water bottle. The next day i checked the bottle and the water level never went down. So i checked the nipple on the bottle and it was working. The next day the same thing the water level never went down. Again i checked it and for some reason it wasnt working. After hitting it like 5 times it started working. So i just bought another bottle. And it has worked ever since. I felt soo horrible. I let my babies go without water :cry3:

So you might want to go buy another bottle cuz you never know!!

I've had that problem with those bottles before. It isn't your fault, I'm sorry that it scared you so bad. :( Those superpet things seem to be a real crap shoot. They work great sometimes and other times the water just doesn't come out.

They work EVERY TIME if you "start" them by bouncing them off the heel of your hand, while inverted, until you see bubbles coming up!! Since there is two balls in the nozzle, to prevent "backwash", sometimes the air gets between the two!
I've called and ask they put something explaining that, and never got a call back!
Since I figured that out, I've not had another problem!

I have superpet bottles for my other 2 chins and have never had a problem. I would always shake the water out a few times and you can't fill them all the way. But i dont know why this one wouldnt work. Ohwell i know now though!!

I agree with Rick, you just need to shake them or do something to them to make sure there isn't an air bubble in the tip. Then make sure and leave an air pocket at the top of the bottle so there's somewhere for the air to go. When I do that to the ones I have, they work just fine.
