Warning: picture of a spider at that link.

At any rate, a species of spider has been found in Central America that subsists primarily on plant materials, and uses those famous spider "hunting" skills to avoid the nasty little ants that guard the plants it eats.

I love the name: Bagheera Kiplingi. Clearly named after the Panther in "The Jungle Book", though why I'm not sure.

So: spiders now eat plants. What's next, talking dogs?

Well I suppose if humans can choose to be vegetarian then so can spiders! It still doesn't stop me from being creeped out by them LOL! And even though there was warning posted I still looked at the spider! YIKES!

If it makes you feel any better, he's only about the size of your pinky fingernail. It's nothing like the Australian Huntsman that can get larger than a soup bowl. *shudder* I'm not even terribly squeamish about spiders and the thought of waking up to that on my nightstand gives me the all-overs.

And I'm all for talking dogs. :p

Then they can tell me that they want to go back outside to potty after being out there for 45 min instead of waiting until they get inside and potty on my floor.

oh wow!! A vegetarian spider???

That's so interesting! I wonder how it evolved/why it started to eat plants instead of just eating those ants.

so while i greatly dislike spiders...anything vegetarian is AWESOME with me!

but i cant help but wonder: you know how some cultures eat insects? wouldnt it be a bit ironic if they ate the vegetarian spider?

but yes, the lil guy is adorable! looks like he has a banana in his mouth...a small and slightly orange banana...but still a banana. maybe im just hungry...im always hungry.

Thats so awesome, he's a neat little fella.
I was scrolling through the new discoveries of animals on that page and came across the world's smallest snake. Its like the size of a quarter! I want one!!
