This morning around 4 am I was woken up by what I swore would have been one of my chinchillas near death and *screaming*. It wasn't a bark, it was very high pitched so I'm thinking maybe it was Kurtis. It happened about 3 times before it stopped, but they both seemed fine.

Do younger chins barks sound a bit different than a full grown chin? This noise was shrill and just plain awful. They both seem fine now I just have no idea what it was.

I've checked the sound site and can't really find a match

This is called the "scare you human owner to death scream" Leonard does this ALL the time. I also call it his trying to get a girlfriend sound (dream on Leonard). It's very scary but when you run out there and check everyone out they are perfectly fine!

I know that scream. Ty, Bronco and Blackjack do it from time to time, it raises my blood pressure immediately because it sounds like someone is really hurt. But, no, no one is hurt...it's just some little chin trying to get attention ASAP.

That's good, I got out of bed expecting the worse! I can't believe his little lungs could produce that sound.

Yeah, they are evil and love to wake us up from a dead sleep and scare the crap out of us! Hedgehogs do it to, and they are even worse. Usually there was nothing wrong, or something fell and just scared them. They are such big fuzzy babies! Lol.

I had not heard that sound from any of my existing chins until I got a new one, he made that scream and after a few months of doing it now several of them scream at night, mostly running on the wheel.

Some times mine to it too.

(I did not know that Hedgehogs do it to that is cool to know)

It's retarded how high pitched and how loud they are sometime. I got used to most of the sounds, I guess subcontiously I know what is a death shriek and what isn't, my male chin will do that at night and I'll wake up and my bf will be sitting in bed *****ing about how otto was hooting all night and crying for me. So I run to the cage and he is just sitting there ready for nuzzles and cuddle scratching time. It's just a tad stresful. I guess it's like a baby having a tantrum.

Kunya made a similar sound last night. We were watching tv and he made this loud high-pitched noise. I immediately got up to check him, I could see he was ok sitting on his favorite ledge. He was fine and just wanted some attention I think! I guess I have created a monster-chin...haha!
