What a night last night, about 4pm I decided Tibbit needed to go to the vet soon, probably Sunday. He had lost some weight and wasn't as active as usual. We let the other 3 boys out for some play time. I was at the computer and smelled a burning wire smell, I looked everywhere, even the garage but couldn't find anything until I picked up Joey to put him away. Oh God, his fur smell burnt, his whiskers were partly melted and he had two brown stripes running down both his sides. He was swiping his mouth, he was alert and active. No vet was available until 8 pm, I though Joey had bitten an electrical wire, but this is what happened. Jeremy cooked frozen burritos and Glenn said "Just a minute, I'll be right there." Jeremy left the oven door open about 6 inches and I guess Joey jumped in there and jumped right out. His fur is singed in a horizontal line across his sides, right worse than left, his face appears fine other than the curled whiskers, but his butt and balls are a little red. He has Metcam and Baytril. Tibbit was diagnosed with a upper respiratory infection URI. It has been 24 hours and they are both doing well. I think I am going to have to start handfeeding Tibbit tonight though.
Any advise is welcome. Thank you, Theresa

Oh no! I am so sorry. I hope that Joey feels better soon, he's a lucky little chin that he didn't get more hurt and burned. Your heart must have just about stopped when you saw that.

I hope that Tibbit recovers very quickly. You caught it quickly, so he should be alright. The handfeeding can be tedious, but he shouldn't need it for too long.

I know that I wouldn't be able to sleep well for a couple nights after that happened. I'm so so sorry, you poor thing!

Got the first handfeeding done, need to go get some things to make it work better and easier, silly Tibbit bit right through the mlylicon dropper. Joey is eating by himself so far.

Yeah, that's why I need to go to the store

OH my! What a horrible experience for the chin!!! I hope they both recover fully. Did he burn his paws? Is he on pain meds for the burns?

No, all 4 paws are ok, the burned fur is from, well like I said the oven door was open about 6 inches making a V at the bottom where he jumped in. The singed fur is from touching the very front of the oven rack, first one side then a little on the other side from turning around to get out. His butt and balls are a little red because of the lack of fur protecting the area, not sure why his feet are ok since they are not that furry. Yes, he is on pain meds and antibiotics. The vet and I expect them both to be OK. Thanks.

Sorry, I don't have any advice just well wishes for your 2 fur babies, hope they heal quickly.

Oh Theresa, how scary! I'm glad you caught things early and they both should be ok.

I'm also glad it was an oven burn and not a chewed wire though...had a puppy once get electrocuted by chewing a live wire and she burned her mouth pretty bad, losing half her tongue. She got over it quickly, but had to relearn how to drink. I can only imagine what damage that could do to a poor chins mouth.

I am so happy they are alright also! What a scare !! You knew just what to do though. Yell at everyone in the home to never do that again!

Update. Both are doing Ok, just need to eat. I am handfeeding both of them, Tibbit has started eating hay and pellets and drinking water. Joey isn't eating much or drinking but is healing very well. Thanks for your well wishes, Theresa
