While all the girls have Bieber fever my son has chinchilla fever. I told him this, but he didn't think that was funny. I got the "look"....

He begs to go to all the shows, and does a fine job at putting chins to sleep with his grooming. Even the feistiest chins are no match! He's already trying to lay claim on every baby born, and now has 3 chinchillas of his own, and is wanting more.
His boy Elvis had kits born this week, with my female, and he's already told me, he gets pick of the litter! If I want first pick, then he gets to pick from one of my other litters... Uhhh what????

He's now practicing on his sewing skills, and has been sewing hammocks, and hay bags. Now he tells me he has some "designs" to try out! I think somewhere along the line there was a mix up. My daughter ended up being the son, my husband always wanted, and I got the daughter I always wanted in my son! Hey it works for me!!!!!

haha! It sure is funny when it works out like that!! At least you have a helper in your son! It's great that he is so passionate about it. :)

How long have you been breeding, Christine? I thought you had been in it for a while, was your son always this interested? I wonder what has sparked his interest- Not that I blame him. Chinchillas are the best! :p

I've been breeding since 2007. We got our first chins back in 05' for my son, River. Two boys. He has always had an interest in them as pets, but I took him to his first show in 09' where his Elvis took a 1st, and it just kind of blossomed from there.

That's adorable! You should be so proud :)) Following in your footsteps, and not afraid to speak his mind about what he likes! Good for him!

that is awesometastic! it's so nice when our kids take an interest in our hobbies and likes :))

my Emily (6 yrs old) loves to talk about Rhino, and one day when we were at petsmart looking at bird toys for him, she piped up 'mommy! look at this one! it's not safe for Rhino, it has plastic on it!'. awwwwww!

My daughter has "Bieber Fever" as she is now age 12....she had chinchilla fever up til now, but Beiber won out with the TWEEN years....lol
I used to be called "Kiki's Chins" as my daughter is KIKI, but since she is no longer interested, I even changed my name, lol ETC Extreme Timmins Chinchillas....after all, she doesn't even clean the cages any more....
maybe the next boy kit I should call JUSTIN BIEBER and then she would be interested again....:)

He just turned 13 years old, and as of last night has his first "girlfriend" so we shall see how long this lasts! I do think he is a bit smitten with the idea that everyone loves his chins. Elvis, and Beetle Juice! ;)

my son is 12 and has no interest in girls yet, whatsoever! lol. Phew!

We have a zoo full of animals here, and although my husband would rather not have any of them, I think it is important for my boys to be exposed to animals and experience how enriching it is to have their companionship. My boys have developed a passion for animals in general, and do help me care and protect them, and I feel like I have done my part in creating sensitive boys who will grow up and be a voice for our animal friends.

Your son sounds very caring and responsible, and I think it is wonderful that he has found a true love for chinchillas!

Hey, if you still want a daughter to follow in your footsteps, will you adopt me please? :wink2: My mum won't let me have any more chins (and I only have one!), hopefully when I move out... You can tell him I'm very jealous, hah.

I know that quite a few breeders have children who end up sharing the interest, and I always think that's really nice, that it's something that carries on in the family. :))

When I knew I was going to be taking Herman I came home and told Stewart--who is 23, he ranted a bit and said we don't have room. Since I am the boss of the house what he says doesnt matter, but the day I picked up Herman he came with me. At first he acted cool and nonchalant, but after he held him he was hooked! When we got in the car to go home I turned to him and said, "now do you see why I HAD to take him?" and Stewart laughed and said "he's freaking adorable!"

Stewart loves all the chins his favorites are the boys though Mick St. John and Leonard and he has a real love for Solange and she reciprocates.
