My 3 year old chinchilla has a bald, pea-sized lump on the underside of his tail about an inch down from his bottom. i spoke to a vet and she said to see if it got any bigger or changed or began to cause him pain when I put a little pressure on it (it didn't when i touched it) and because the emergency vet I called didn't specialize in chins I was wondering if this is a normal, benign thing and when I should take him to the vet? he is behaving normally, eating, drinking, pooping, active, nothing has changed. This is the first I have noticed it. it seems like I would have noticed it before, because i'm observant enough and check my chins a lot... but I don't know. I haven't seen it before.

It's always worth your peace of mind to see your regular vet that you trust. E-vets lately seem to really be screwing up in the chin department. I'd like to think it's not intentional, but rather a lack of exposure to chins on a regular basis.

It could be a tumor, though those are fairly rare on chins. It could be a blocked duct with a hair in it, it could be a cyst, an abscess, a calcium deposit. There's no way to know for sure without having a qualified vet take a look at it.
