Hey everybody,

I thought I would share Tribble's "soon to be" new buddy, Trouble. "The Trouble with Tribbles" LOL, anybody get that? He was born on saturday weighing 42g. I am so excited. He will be ready at the end of Feb or beginning of March. I am going to quarantine him for 30 days and then go about the recommended procedures to introduce him. Do any of you have some tips?

Some guy came into our shop and is saying, "oh, you just wait.. when they wanna mate they will fight like heck. They will kill eachother." I'm hoping this guy is just an idiot because it doesn't sound like anything you guys have ever said.

That is exciting but please be careful, a lot can happen with kits between birth and weaning try not to get too attatched, Most breeders will not put babies on hold that soon. That is an adorable baby

:(

You were right, Star.

My kit has died. The lady wrote me a few days ago saying the little kit wasn't able to get enough milk from his own mother (he was one of three). She tried to move the kit to a surrogate mother that was nursing and she didn't take to him. He died this morning at 4am. I am very sad.

I don't know what I will do from this point on. This just wasn't meant to be.

RIP my little guy-- I never got to meet you, but you were part of our family.

I hope this thread gets seen by the breeders that do put their kits up for adoption this early. THIS is exactly why we tell people not to do that. Kits are adorable and very easy to get attached to before you ever meet them.

I am sorry you were promised a baby that didn't survive. I would find a reputable breeder in your area to find a friend for Tribble.

Thanks RDZC. I was juggling the idea of getting Tribble a friend and now I'm not so sure. He seems very happy right now and I give him lots of attention. He is such a friendly little guy. Is it better to get him a friend when he is young or does it really matter?

I think it's better to get him a cagemate while he's young. His cagemate does not have to be a baby though. You can adopt an older male in need of a home to be his forever buddy.

Thanks. If I do get a cagemate, I am gonna get a rescue.

I am sorry it ended that way.... That is why reputable breeders don't put babies on hold at such a young age. Countless times I have had people ask me too I always refuse
