I had this question pop into my head, and now it's stuck there:

Why do we call Black Velvets and Brown Velvets by those names when other TOV's are called by their color (ex Ebony TOV etc...)? Is there a reason why we don't call them Standard TOV or Beige TOV, and on the flip side of that why don't we call other colors Ebony Velvet or White Velvet etc...? I think I remember reading somewhere that a Sapphire TOV is called a Sapphire Royale? Any thoughts?:hmm:

Show terms TOV beige, Black. TOV sapphire etc. ALl the other terms are marketing..best sounding name

I know that if I say black velvet or brown velvet people all know what I am talking about. When I say TOV it seems like a lot of people don't have a clue. TOV beige is the same as brown velvet. :) I don't know why there isn't a mosaic velvet or an ebony velvet. :D

Every time I say TOV in front of a particular rancher, they get so mad at me! They keep telling me that TOV only stands for the beige x black cross and that other crosses with black in them should not be deemed TOV. First time I heard this, it threw me a loop.

Ya but what else could you call a tov white other then a tov white

Generally, you can't really see TOV on most whites or ebonies, which is probably why they never got a fancy name. But I say we petition to call TOV whites "Incandescent Ivories" and TOV ebs can be "Obsidian Ink-jet of Midnight Wraps"

Mish - I love the new names! I should use those. Midnight wrap is sort of catchy! I have one of those right now, she's about eight months old and spectacular....she needs something better than TOV eb to describe her chubby beauty. :D

I agree with AZ, Midnight Wraps it is!! :) I suppose if it was a dark eb it would be hard to see, but my Lily is a nice medium ebony "Midnight Wrap" ;-) and her coat is just stunning (Atleast to me).

I've got a 4 mo. old TOV Violet Wrap female getting darker - "Purple Haze"???

I also love the name "midnight wrap" (sounds cool) but I personally have never cared much for the tov ebs because your right and it is hard to see the tov on them.
I dis-agree with you on the whites tho. I can see tov on the whites. Most of them anyways. Some can be tricky to see tho. I can agree there are some you wouldnt know were tov's unless they were bred and they threw the gene. I.M.O. there is usually some hint that they might be carrying the gene tho

Just to confuse matters further, here in the UK we don't use the term TOV much (if at all).
Off the top of my head we have:
Black velvet
Brown Velvet
Black/White Cross (your TOV white)
Ultra Violet (your TOV violet)
Char Brown (TOV recessive pastel)
Char Black (TOV recessive charcoal)
Royal Blue (TOV sapphire)

Not all TOV ebs don't show veiling. Depends on the darkness of the eb. I have two TOV ebs that you can clearly see they are TOV
