I am new to chins. I had a pair of young chins abt 4 months old. All was fine until today. Both are kept in seperate cages but next to each other. Suddenly, I realise that my female chin front "fingers" was bitten off and bleeding. She seems fine. Do I need to do anything? It is very difficult to find a proper vet for chin in my area.

Please advise.

First, the time to find a proper vet is before an injury occurs. It would be a good idea to interview some vets in your area, or even farther out, to find one that is experienced in treating chins. Even someone who is willing to learn about chins would be good. Trust me, if something happened at 2 a.m., you would be kicking yourself for not finding a good vet and keeping the number handy.

Second, chins get toes bit off all the time. As long as there is no bone sticking out, it's usually not a huge deal. Make sure there is no bleeding. Keep an eye out for swelling or discoloration of the foot. If that happens, you can do some epsom salt soaks in warm water, but you'll most likely need to make that vet visit.

Lastly, if you have a male and a female close enough that they can bite toes through the bars, you can have a female getting pregnant by a male. Your female is too young to even be considered for breeding at 4 months. You need to get those cages farther apart, so an accidental breeding that could kill your female doesn't occur.

Welcome to CnH. :)

Thank you so much :). My chin seems to be recovering. The bleeding had stopped and the wound had closed up.
