Wondering if it would be alright to give timothy pellets as opposed to the regular hay? I seem to have a hard time getting real good hay around here.Want to make sure this is a good idea, I think the pellets were made by Brown.

No, you should still give hay. Hay allows the chins to wear down back teeth that are not utilized in eating pellets.

Have you considered ordering online? www.americanpetdiner.com has really good quality timothy hay. Also, you may check some pet stores around you. If you do not have a lot of chins, it wouldn't be too expensive to just buy hay from there.

PetsMart is selling Oxbow western timothy in many of their stores.

While pellets, and most anything else a chin eats, are also ground up using the molars, hay is much more effective.

I have oxbox timothy now but it isn`t very good quality with alot of brown in it. Thanks for the advise I will find some good quality stuff, nothing but the best for my 1 little guy!!

I agree that you should keep loose hay in your chin's diet if possible. Some big ranchers don't use loose hay, but it really is good for their teeth.
Have you looked for orchard grass or bermuda grass in your area? These are other types of grass hay that can be used in place of timothy.
Otherwise you can buy large boxes of hay online if buying it in the pet store doesn't work for you.
I haven't tried APD, but mine all like Oxbow.

ETA: where did you get your Oxbow? If it was from the pet store it could have just been sitting in their warehouse for far too long. I get mine direct from Oxbow and it's always been nice and fresh and green. I know not everyone would want to order direct, but I sell it in my store which is why I order it direct.

Right now on horseloverz.com you can get a 40 oz. bag of zupreem for only $6.00 with free shipping. I have heard from others it's really good quality hay.

Just use this code when you check out. rtmfs-71509

Reading, i am not sure if you are in Reading Pa, or not, but I am. I have the same issue with the hay being total waste lately. Most of the things from Brown's is not what I call chin quality. I went and looked. I gasped when I seen the chin food!

I usually order on line now.
