Prices are per ranch

Location: Sacramento, CA

Date: October 24th and 25th

There will be a super hospitality room on Friday night well worth the price of admission! For those interested, this would be a great opportunity to rub elbows with all of the speakers before the seminar! There is also a banquet on the agenda for Saturday evening.

Participants in this seminar will not bring animals, there will not be a live show but there will be live animals for demonstrations on fur faults so that people can get a more hands on approach at the seminar.

If you have any questions about anything else please contact the show chairs:

Tabitha(me) on here or at [email protected]

I'm planning on attending. My sister that lives up north might come she thought the March show was pretty interesting.

I am super excited about this event too! Actually I never attended any Chin show, is this strictly for professional breeder? Is there any pet owner like me would go too?
I am interested to know more about chinchillas, and get involved around people who are also "into" chinchilla.

Planning and preparation for the West Coast Affair are moving along nicely!

Thus far, we have Vin Somavia, Ellis Adcock, Pete and Sue Kisesky, Bill Booker, Norah Horton, Rod and Donna Read, Cara Beasley and Lani Ritchey who have committed to assiting with the West Coast Affair. As far as specifics go, the main focus will be on fur quality and recognizing quality in the chinchilla with "key" animals and pelts which exhibit certain fur qualities. There will also be grooming demonstrations by Donna and Sue and how to prep a chinchilla for show. Lani will be covering nutrition in the chinchilla and Cara will be discussing genetics and how the understanding and applied science of genetics can improve ones herd. Also on the agenda is sperm checking and artificial insemination in chinchillas to be led by Bill Booker. Pete will discuss dressing and a bit about the market. Norah Horton will be planning the hospitality room which alone will be worth the price of admission. There will be excellent door prizes, a 50:50 drawing and we are looking into having a live animal raffle as well with class champion quality male and female chinchillas.

More is still in the works and updates will be posted as we find out more!

Mark the dates on your calendar. You don't want to miss this!

I'm spreading the word and planning on attending. Sounds like there are going to be a lot of knowledgable people attending and who knows when we can get so much knowledge together again!

Vin and Ellis have both declined to speak. They hate public speaking but they will both be at the seminar. Even though they are not speaking both have a wealth of knowledge and are always more than happy to answer anyone's questions.

The hotel the show will be hosted at will be the Hilton in Sacramento. Details are being finalized and we should have rates and everything else up by the end of next week!

Just received an email from Gary...this is exciting news so brace yourselves! I'm adding to the speakers list.

Vin Somavia and Ellis Adcock-Building a Show Quality Herd

For those of you that don't know Ellis, he owns Darkstar Chinchillas. He was a giant in the industry when he was a younger man then decided to get out of chinchillas. A few years later he took up chinchillas again and within two years was back to the same quality he had built to before. Anything Ellis or Vin talk on is well worth listening to. I've had the opportunity to sit next to them during a banquet one time and the amount of knowledge you get from talking to them for thirty minutes is just amazing. Hearing them speak will be a rare and wonderful treat!

Tabitha, I'm not sure if you want to bring it up to Gary about having it video tape. This would be a good opportunity for people that cannot make it to the seminar to purchase it.

Put my name in for one of those videos too!

Oh and Gary just emailed me and reminded me that I do still have room on the top of my station wagon. All I need is a few bungee cords and I can strap at least another 3 to 4 people on the top!!! Let me know who wants to travel with me!!!

I don't know that we have the resources to do a video and make a bunch of copies. I'll discuss it with Gary but the main reason we posted so early about this seminar is so those with busy schedules can hopefully get that weekend freed up ahead of time. ;)

Pretty good line-up for the seminar. I saw on another post that Vin and Ellis had declined to speak because they hated public speaking. How did you ever convince them to do this?
