My chinchilla Ruby has been acting a little slugish the past few days. But, the past few days has also been like a heat wave. She is not showing signs of heat stroke, and we are putting a big fan in my room for a few hours to cool it off. We cant put an air conditioner in my room because there are no windows, just a sliding glass door. It is open right now. Until the room cools down though, I have her in my parents room (because there is an air conditioner) and she is in her carrier because the cage is too big to move...Is this all okay?? tomorrow the weather is going to start to cool down. Thank god she is a pink white and not black!!

Thank you!

P.S. The chin-chiller is in the freezer as we speak.

She probably isn't experiencing heat exhaustion, she's probably just uncomfortable and doesn't want to move. That happens when my chins get above about 76° (That's with 10 to 20% humidity at the most.)

Why would her being a pink white help with her temperature sensitivity?

You don't say where you're from, but your chin wll be OK. for a day or two, as long as it has food and water!

I bet it is humid in your room without an A/C even with a low temp. My air conditioner is going most of the time and it is 69/70 degrees but 50 percent humidity...I live in Texas....humidity is so hard to beat here!

Well, It wouldnt help with that it is just that the color black absorbs heat while white reflects it. I am not completely sure if that applies here but thats what i have learned

The fan will hopefully cool down the room, but it will not cool down the chinchilla since they are not capable of sweating.
I would get some more tiles, and put them in the freezer. Another option is frozen water bottles, but just make sure it is covered in fleece as you won't want her to get wet.
As long as she's in the room with the A/C she should be fine. Keep an eye on her ears, if they get red she is too warm.
If the A/C, God forbid, fails you can always put her in the vehicle with the A/C until you can find another place cool enough for her to be.
Good luck!

Like the others said, keep your baby in A/C for as long as possible. Also make sure she stays hydrated. A fan is better than nothing, I s'pose, but when it gets REALLY hot, it just doesn't cut it. :tantrum:
