OMG! CVS FLYER(first pic)! Lol sorry, I work for them. Anyway!

Cute girlies, but get more stuff for that cage!

What a good sized cage for the girls! I agree, it needs to be filled. I'm sure your girls had fun exploring the new home!

One of the girls has been sneezing, should I treat her for wet tail?

The second one is really cute! I'm not a big fan of rats... don't dislike them though... but she does have tha 'awww' factor :cute:

I don't know if anyone else posted this... and I'm not trying to be a downer... but..

I hope you are aware that many rats bred to be 'feeder rats' (a horrible name) are often inbred, housed with little care, and their general hardiness is not very good.

I just wanted to post this since you mentioned a possible illness already. I've known a couple of people who had saved feeder rats and reported to me that they were the sickest rats they have ever had and lived short lives (but were also extremely friendly). Just something to keep in mind and be proactive if you should see signs of illness.

Yes I assume they wont be very healthy but the person that breeds doesnt inbreed them. He has too large of a group for that. I know a lot of people that buy rats from the feeders at this store and they are suprisingly very healthy and have been kept as pets for a long time. The little one is extremely healthy, just Malty the gray one is sneezing.
The other thing I could argue is my chinchilla was from a pet store, and it wasn't healthy. So just as rats, even if they come from a pet store, doesn't mean they'll be healthy.

Good for your girls. I guess your petstore must be using a breeder who is producing better quality animals. I know the ones that provided the 2 I knew about didn't. They seemed to always be on antibiotics and both died from mammary cancer at an extremely young age for a rat. Vets felt it was due to inbreeding. Sorry to bother you.

eeeeeepppp! there sooo cute!!!! i want them!!!:heart3:
i love there names also :cute:
i miss my rattie girl so much. i really want to get another...

Rats don't get wet tail. Is there a lot of red around her nose and eyes? (Porphyrin) Some is normal, large amounts is not. A sneeze here and there is normal, repetetive sneezing, rapidly, is not. It's possible she is having a mycoplasma flare, which, unfortunately, rats are prone to.

Usual course of treatment for a myco flare is Baytril and Doxycycline.

Ah well at least they don't get wet tail! It is a repetative sneezing when she is active it seems. It seems to only happen when she is running around. She squeaks a lot too lol.

(No problem Kalandra it was a great point. I do hope that he has kept his quality up! If not I plan to give them a good life while they are around. And then adopt from a rescue in the future.)

Where can I get those medicines?
