Baley and I wanted to say thank you for all the wonderful advice received through searching posts over the years. His "stupid human" never joined, for I can not add anything to the wealth of knowledge that many of you possess.

Baley turned 15 last month. I would say that he is gray now, but he was pretty much gray to start with. He has been my companion for about the last 8 of those years. He is a 1 human chinchilla. So, he ditched his human mom, and became part of my life.:neener:

He also wanted me to write you to say thanks. We have been battling the sniffles, diagnosed heart arrhythmia, and now there is a little build up in his eyes. We are in some up and down stages right now, but at this age all I can do is hope that I make the right decisions with my Vet, and know when it is time to say goodbye. :cry3:

With many memories and thanks,

Baley(Boo-Boo) and Troy

It is never easy to watch your loved pet through his /her senior years. I have a persian cat that will turn 17 next month and will be heart broken when she passes. Enjoy the time & love you still have together. Sounds like Baley has had a very dedicated human companion for the last 8 years!!!

Welcome! This board is such a great resource!

Sorry to say.....

Your welcomes message are wonderful!!! Baley says, "breeecc!"

Unfortunately, Baley took a turn for the worse at about 3 am this morning. He was in pretty bad pain, and was inconsolable. Pressing his little head into the side of his cage for relief, I just can't have him like this! He had been "getting better" and acting somewhat normal yesterday. This was after 2 days of sleeping 22-23 hours a day and being lathargic. Plus, I think that "normal" for me after he's been so down, is not really normal for him.

I have him on buprenex contantly now, and the soonest I could get a Vet over for Euthenasia is first thing Friday morning. I'm probably being selfish, but I wanted his last day(s) not spend going to the Vet, since he hates to travel. Though, if he is any worse or doesn't seem to be getting relief with buprenex anymore, I will take him tommorrow morning.

I have to admit, this hurts. I hate being an adult sometimes, and making these decisions. I am going to miss him terribly. I know I'm wierd, but... I wish that he was human, so that I wouldn't take this as hard as I am.

I am so sorry you are going through this. It is so incredibly hard to say goodbye, even when it is in the best interest for Baley. I don't think you are weird at all, our animal friends are gone and out of our lives much too quickly. I hope you and Baley can spend some quality time together before Friday, and create more wonderful memories for you to cherish for a lifetime.
