What's the difference between tan and pastel? I have a kit for sale that I call tan. He's beige like his mom, but it wraps around due to the ebony gene. However I've seen pictures of the same color and people call it pastel.

I've heard people say a pastel is a "first generation tan" which makes absolutely no sense. A tan is a tan, it just has different color in the coat to tell whether it's a "pastel" or a chocolate.

Pastel is just a description. A tan is a tan..pastel, meduim, light, dark, chocolate all are tans

I had heard that once upon a time as well Cassi, but when I first started in chins, everybody called a light chin a pastel, i.e., a "first generation" tan. I just call tans tans. Light tan, dark tan and leave it at that.

I thought the pastel term was for having charcoal in the gene? I heard that somewhere...I'm not sure where.

Yes, in the UK they are still separate mutations - pure recessive charcoal (charcoal, pastel, char-brown, char-black) and there are some of us still mad enough to breed them. ;)
We do not use the terms "pastel" and "tan" interchangeably.

My tan is from a brown velvet mom and a dark ebony dad. The kit is biege all around. Should I consider him a tan?
