I am a bit concerned about Oscar who is 5 months. He had a bit of conjunctivitis (vet gave him Fucithalmic) a while back and that eye has ever since been a bit bigger than the other. But today me and my mum noticed that it looked like a golf ball compared to the other and we are a bit concerned, there is a photo attached to the other thread i posted in the General topics and have decided to post another here because it has got slightly worse in the past few days, the other photo is clearer but here is another.

Is it something to be worried about?

Also we were going to arrange him to go to the vet but when i took pippa because of her diarrhea the vet we had held her with wet hands! so the latest we can get an appointment with someone experienced is Friday. Was wondering if anyone could tell me if they have experienced a swollen eye before with a chin?

Many thanks

Oh dear, that does not look normal at all. I imagine there's pressure building up in there making it swell out. She's got to be in lots of pain..

I would not wait until Friday for a vet, if you wait too long I would imagine the pressure could get to be too much and it would burst.

I'm no expert and have never dealt with this before, but I would not wait at all.

Have made an appointment for tonight at 7.40pm
Have just held him and in the light you can see his swollen eye is skittering everywhere....
Will let you know how it goes

I'm glad you could get him in sooner. Hopefully the vet will be of help and can figure out what is wrong with him!

Let us know how it goes

Hey just back from the vets she was pretty stumped, but she thinks that he is prone to conjunctivitis and it could just be that again or she said it could be something called Glicoma...where the eye is pulled out of the socket? But she looked it up and said that is only found in rats. We were given eyedrops for him again and to see how he gets on and if it is no better by next monday which is his next appoinment she is reffering us to a specialist....so fingers crossed!

Looks like glaucoma to me - and it does appear in chinchillas.

If it is, the eye will need removing, your chin will also need pain relief.

May be a good idea to find a vet with chin knowledge

I'm kind of worried about just giving more drops. I've had a chin with conjunctivitis and it never made the eye swell it was just discharge.

It just seems like there's something going on internally that is making pressure build up and popping the eye out. I'd have to imagine he's in quite a bit of pain..

Hey guys, long time!

Well oscar is now sorted. In the end after x-rays and numerous drops and a trip to edinburgh he has Glicoma. We were given drops for him which keep it at bay but it will never go away :( the vet said we could take his eye out but i couldnt go through with it, he is perfectly happy, eating fine and is not in pain because of it so decided not to do it.
Thought i would let you guys know how it went!
