i want to take her to the vet but my mom says no because it doesnt have discharge, its been like 2 weeks, so heres what is happening: her left eye only is goopy, and is missing fur, its a darker color around it, and its in the corner of her eye only, but her right eye is fine, and her sister mama isnt showing any problems. they are 5 years old so still little babies, and sunshine, the one with the problem was the "runt" of the litter, she is almost half the size of mama, her sister.

im wondering if her eye is icky because of smoke irritation. my grandma smokes non stop down stairs, especially at night, and they werent exposed to that much smoke ever, this is the first time ive relised sunshine having issues.

what do i do? ots been about two weeks!!!

If her eye is goopy and she's missing fur, then most likely she's got an eye infection. With eye issues, people also automatically think of malocclusion. Either of the two of these will require veterinary attention. The eye can be flushed out with saline, but it's not going to clear up the infection, only get rid of the goop. If it is a simple infection, she'll need drops at the very least, possibly oral antibiotics as well depending on how severe it is. The other possibility would be fungus, which can result in hair loss around the eye, but it's not goopy. It's dry, red, and scaly.

As far as grandma smoking, you cannot continually expose a rodent to smoke like that without expecting some sort of issue to arise. You either need to move the chin to your room or ask grandma nicely to stop smoking near your pet. This is not a healthy environment for your chin (or you) and could cause respiratory issues in your chin, again, requiring vet care.

oh i know about the smoking, we had a talk today, because theyve never been exposed to this, my grandparents just moved in, i want to move them to my room(my chinchillas) but were gunna try a few things first like when gramma comes down here, to shut their door, until she goes to bed, but were gunna see if my grandparents will sleep in the basement and my chinchillas will get their own room back! they had their own room sence the day we brought them home! thanks for the advice, oh also does it matter that its only in one eye??
