I just got a new chin and she seems to be straining a bit to poo. She's been eating, drinking, and peeing. I just want to know if there is anything I can give her. She's pooping a lot but when I do see her poo she seems to strain a bit.

Is she eating lots of hay? Or just pellets?
Maybe needs a higher fibre diet?

Is she having any problems peeing?

How is the poo as far as shape and consistency? Fresh poo is it slightly moist and easy to break in half? Any points at the ends or is the surface rough or dry? So you see this movement if no poo is produced?

Has this only just started happening or has she always been like this from the moment you got her? Is there definitely nothing in her cage that she could have eaten that be difficult for her to digest? Any change in diet?

If the poo is looking on the small side she may be a little bit constipated.

Try not to panic too much and remember that any poo is better than no poo at all.

Well she was drinking a ton and she takes hay and good when she wants. I watched her last night and she seems to be pooping normal now. When I brought her home her poo was hard, small, and light in color. Now it looks like normal chin poo and she's doing it effortlessly. I'm thinking she was just a little dehydrated or it could be because I was slowly introducing her to a new food (kaytee to oxbow). Thanks everyone though.

Probably was just the stress of moving and going from a really crappy food to a good one. Sounds like she's adjusting already :)
