I'm wondering...What is the best way to store food? Since I went from having one chin to three, I decided it is best to buy the 25 pound bag of Mazuri instead of buying the 2 pound bags. It works out to about $1.44 less per pound. I was told once that storing it in the freezer would extend its life, but now I read that this is not a good idea. So, would it be better to have the food stored in airtight ziplock bags, or just to keep it in the original feed bag? I estimate the 25 pounds should last about 4-5 months, which, from what I can gather, is a decent window for it keeping its nutritional value. Even if I end up losing a few pounds of it, it is still much cheaper than buying the 2 pound bags. But is airtight better, or not?

Thanks.

I store my feed in an airtight rubbermaid container. I used to not do it this way and just keep it in the bags. I'm going to say it keeps its freshness better in the container... At least, it smells like it does.

I buy 50 lbs. of Oxbow at a time and store it in a Gamma Vittles Vault airtight container.

tote..I buy 50lb bags which last about 5 months for my 4 chins and one rabbit. Makes it easier to deal with and I don't have to worry about making a mess.

I transfer Trixie's food into one of these lock lid containers. They come in many sizes and I use them for many things. I get mine at the supermarket. They keep food pretty air tight. And it fits well in the fridge.

I was using those huge Zip-loc or some brand giant zip bags. I got the XL size (apx. 2x3 feet) from Shopko, but the zipper breaks too soon. Anyway, I have 7 chins and buy 50 lbs Panr show. After about 3 months the chins throw it around and dig more than usual, that's my cue that it's getting stale and time to feed a neighbors horse

I go through 50lb every few days I keep it in a air tight container. My mom goes through 25 a month she also stores it in a airtight container
