My new baby and my first chin are looking like they just don't like eachother, so I'm starting to think about the future and housing them seperate for good.

At the moment Pip (new chin) is in a smaller cage than Mr P, but I thought I could always split my FN 142 and house one on the top and one on the bottom. Would this be okay for my babies? Is one level enough space for a chin to get all he/she needs?

Agreed... definitely fine for 1 or 2, though my guys do not take kindly to having their space downsized, so you may have to deal with some very angry chins for a few weeks. They get over it eventually.

It's fine. My FN 142 is split, 2 chins in each section. They do fine..

I also have both of my FN 142's split with no problem. One of the sections has 2 chins in it, the others each have 1 chin each. Someone had pics (in the FN thread I think) of somewhere around 7 or 8 chins in one FN 142 together. They didn't even look cramped. :)

Yes I have a FN 142 and FN 143 (add-on to the 142) I think, and so its a 3 story cage, and can be divided up into 3 sections. I can easily put 4 chinchillas in each section and they aren't even crammed at all. They cuddle so much, so they don't take up very much space. And if I have alot of shelves in each so it gives them alot of jumping room. :)

Yep, Erin's post she linked is the one I was thinking of. :) I really had to count those girlies to make sure I was really seeing 9 of them in there!

I have my 2 boys in a split FN and they do just fine. You can get a wheel if you don't already have one for extra running around.
