So I was playing with my two chinchillas tonight, both about 3 months old, when I noticed the one that was eating by the bowl had some wet greenish stuff dripping out of her mouth into the food bowl. They are getting Mazuri feed.

I picked up a napkin and wiped her mouth and it was wet with little chewed up bits of pellet in there. I picked up their food dish and there was some wet bits of chewed up pellet in there. It looked like it probably all came from one pellet. I picked her up, wrapped her in a towel and looked at her teeth and they seemed straight and orange. She pooped when I had her wrapped up and it looked ok as well.

I dumped out the food bowl and refilled it and she proceeded to eat some more pellets without any problems that I could tell.

I know chinchillas cannot vomit but I don't remember reading anything about them spitting out the chewed food. Has anyone else seen anything like this?

maybe she just tried to eat too much at once. Keep an eye on her to make sure that her mouth doesn't start getting wet when she's not eating as that can be a sign of a potential tooth problem.

Ok. I'll keep an eye on her although the fur under her mouth and chest is currently dry.
