Can i prepare birch wood just like i would apple (scrub and bake) I just want to be safe. And also, is maple safe? I wasnt planning on using it, but i havent seen it as safe or unsafe. Also does it matter what kind of apple tree the wood comes from? Like the color of the apples? Thanks!

Yes, all woods are pretty much prepared the same way. As always, avoid wood with lichen on it and make sure it is untreated.

As for maple, http://www.chinchillas2home.co.uk/safewoods.htm has maple on the UNSAFE list.

All apple varieties and crabapple are safe to use.
