around 14 days ago i found that sooty had a abscess what had popped .
i only checked all my chins a week before for health problems ect ect as i do it every month.
i rushed her to the vets were they tryed to clean it up but cudnt get most of the pus away as it was hard . so sooty had to have a small opp to remove the all the smelly nasty pus.

i will post photos so others can see how bad a abscess can be .

this is before treatment by the vet very very smells .

sooty has been on antibiotics but for the 1st 5 days she was spitting them out . but the last weeks shes swallowing the antibiotic mix . we thought sooty was 7 weeks preggers but out of the blue she had a kit 6 days ago and all if going great with it . realy didnt think so after sooty having a op and being on antibiotics .

the abscess pockets filled up again 2 days ago so the vet told me what to do so i cleaned and emptyed again . now all mean well sooty is on the road to getting better again .

heres a pic after i cleaned her last night .

i should of put a warning before i posted the photo DO NOT LOOK AT PHOTO IF YOU ARE EATING hehe . thanks all mean well it will start to heal up now . after ive cleaned it 3 times a day im putting (INLRASITE )gel on to the wound.the antibiotics im useing are (BAYTRIL) .

awww poor thing. I hope that heals up well for her. How does a chin get something like that?

Godh I agree, pretty nasty thing.....

Monitor her food intake, they tend to stop eating when on Baytril. Since she's got a baby to feed, better she keeps eating.

I was unfortunately eating vegetable soup when I clicked on this...Though the title should have detered me lol.

How does something like that happen? Poor Sooty, I hope she feels better soon. :)

Well, she is a strong little one. That little kit to, for somehow it went thru surgery also.

Hope their health keeps improving and up. :)

yep she sure is and the kit . my vet said there was a very good chance the kit would of been put to sleep when sooty had her opp . so far the kit is doing just fine strong healthy eating well .

Poor thing.
Good thing you're taking care!
You know how it got there?

its looking loads better today i have to take some photos too email the vet tomorrow as i cant take sooty as she has the kit now .

no idea . maybe the male bit her but its not like him to do that . as theres nothing sharp in her cage were she cud bang herself on .
but i think it cud of been done by herself biteing as she was preggers .

but i cud be wrong . will post up tomorrows photos .

It would be nice if you could update the UK forum you originally posted on too please - I know a lot of people have been watching Sooty's thread :)

There is no way she would have been able to reach around and bite herself - the abscess is not in a place she could reach with her teeth.
It is more likely to have been the male or she got a splinter of wood or hay etc in it.

I'll have to disagree that she can't reach it....I have seen mine chew areas that far up their own necks! Much further, no, but that far...yes. That doesn't mean she did it to herself, but I am sure she could reach it. I have been watching my chin do it for weeks scratching a spot in the same place that had a minor infection/hair loss and now the itchy regrowth of hair.

Dustbunnies please re-read my post.

The original wound is behind her head/ear - she would need to twist her head off to reach it.
She could have scratched it with her back foot but not bitten herself there.
