So, I did some research, and only found things saying Hedgies shouldn't sqweek...

Tonight's the third time I hear him, but it's the first time I see him while he does it. He's balled up half in his wheel, and he makes his ball tighter then sqweeks, and the releaces a bit... and he does that about 5 times, then stop. And the, a few minutes later, he starts again...

Last time, he also made this HUGE grunt noise, but he was in his nest and I couldn't see him...

Should I be worried?

I've had him for a month now, he's a 3 year old. My friend handed him to me as he was not being very well cared for before.

Thanks!!

I'm betting the noise you are hearing is very normal. I'm going to guess your hedgehog has a squeaky click. Hedgehogs that are really upset with you and trying to tell you to leave them alone, last warning, make a click noise. I have one here whose click is more of a squeak.

Some hedgehogs do make squeaky noises. Poptart 'chatters'/makes very faint squeaks all the time. Sometimes they get quiet loud. For her their meaning varies greatly. Sometimes she gets louder when she is upset, other times she is excited.

Hmmmm, this "click" you say, is only when he's really mad, eh? When he's "hissing" at me when I pick him up, he does a somwhat "click" sound as he kicks a bit... But this squeak is different... he's all alone in his cage, undisturbed, almost sleeping... then he just sqweezes his ball a little harder and squeaks. It's fairly loud.... We still hear it very well 5 meters away from the cage when the TV is on....

He doesn't make that noise when I bug him... So I dunno..... it's the third time this week I hear him.... Is it really only a normal noise? :O

Hmm. I'm wondering if he is getting a little too involved in grooming himself. I have heard a male hedgehog make a squeak once or twice while they were tending to their male parts.

He may be exciting himself as Kalandra said. Long as you have looked him over very thoroughly and there are no signs of injury, no blood (from urine or otherwise), his nails are aren't hurting him, it is likely a normal noise.

I see.... There is no blood in his cage, but I can not look at him at all... my house is his third house.. .He's always been around small children, and he's very scared and very anti-social... As a little nicknale, we call him Emo.... lol! But yeah, he just won't let me do anything with him..... It's a little hard to look at him... is there any good way to get him to warm us to us other than just wait? I pick him up at least 5 times a week, but in a month, not much has changed... other than that now, he'll sniff my finger without hissing... :O

Could he really be.... enjoying himself?? :O

I dont know where you have read that hedgehogs are not suppose to make sounds.. But all of mine have made some kind of noise.

Honey would make a "coo-ing" noise when she was in her nest. And The rest of the boys would make the hiss-click-pop noise when they are upset but I also have two who sing to each other almost every night. Both are male. They sound like mice squeeking. And they do it when they are both out at the same time. It is so Loud you can hear it in the bedroom with the door shut.. which is a dinning room and living room away from the hedgehog room.

There is also the "death scream".. which is one to be worried about. And if you dont know what it sounds like your little one hasnt made it. You will know IF you ever hear it what it sounds like. Its an extreme fear/panic or pain scream. But most of the other noises are normal. One you start getting to know your hedgehog you will learn to recognized which noise is for what.

Wow, ok! Thanks!! So since the sond is fairly small, all should be good!

Thanks so much! I feel a lot better now! :D

I will come back if I have any other worries! :D
