As most of you know - I do rescue work with chins - re-homing them. I had been 'interviewing' a prospective chin person. She, at first, sounded like a good place for 2 of my bonded female rescues to go. She has chins and knew that they were a 10-15 + year committment. She runs a dog rescue herself. THEN she mentioned that her chins were in a 100 gal fish tank. She has 2 3 feet cages but claims the chin are 'happier' in the fish tank. I tried to explain to her that was NOT a good idea - if fact it was a VERY bad idea. I then said the maybe she didn't really have all the proper facts of caring for chins and suggested she 'hang out here' She had an absolute fit - 'how dare you' and so forth. So I had to 'right her off' What is it with people sometimes - Glad I ask a lot of questions before placing my chins.

That's sad. I'm sure those poor chins don't have any room to jump around. How does she think they'd be happy in there? You can't put ledges or hammocks in there, can you? Poor babies... =(

Making a mistake like that is one thing, but refusing to listen or learn... I just don't get people like that.

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. This lady on craigslist has a female she is re homing. I tried to talk to her today...She has her chin in a small cage.AND that big ball. I asked her to come here or C&H so she would know what to at least know what to tell new owners. But she said I am getting rid of it why do I need to learn about it.I am trying to stay away from her.I have an extra ferret nation But I am planning on getting a baby soon.I really hope someone with chinchilla knowledge get that chin.

No one likes to be told that they are wrong.... but why would you ever want to jeopardize the health of your pet just for the sake of pride? I don't understand people like that either. I try to stay away from websites like CL.... it makes me too sad. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to have pets!

Well, at least she let it slip before you gave those poor babies to her. I feel bad for the ones stuck in the tank. There's no way that they are "happier" in a poorly ventilated tank without ledges to play on. She obviously doesn't care to much about her chins anyway. If she did she would have been thankful for the advice and considered coming to a site where she could learn more. Since I found chins and hedgies I have been recommending people to come on here to learn when they purchase or adopt from me. Most are pretty thankful and say they're going to. Who knows if they really do or not though. Like Cherlyn said, people do make mistakes, but when they refuse to learn how to fix their mistakes it says alot about their character.

If I was someone who didn't know enough, I would definately want someone to tell me what I am doing wrong... in a nice way, but blunt at the same time. It's frustrating that people don't care. The petstore here in my hometown has two chins in a plexiglass container... It's horrifying, but I don't have the money to buy them or else I would.

i dont do rescues but i work at a petstore

and you always get those people that are "experts"(or know some expert) that doesnt know what they are talking about and doesnt want to listen

i am upset when people are not doing the correct thing but as long as they are willing to learn and change for the better i let it slide

but sometimes i just want to punch them in the face:banghead:

what i hate the most is when customers come in and i start talking to them and i found out an employee sold them some animal with out making sure they had the proper equipment or knowledge to care for them properly grrr

people should just be glad i am not the manager b/c they would be gone
