...so little money :(
theres so many chins listed on craigslist in my area and i want to help them all out but i just dont have the money to buy them. theres one for free but hes almost 2 hours away :( ive seen some posts that says they come with an exercise ball and they are the ones i want to get the most just so I know they dont have to be trapped in those things :(. it makes me so sad that I cant help them all.

so i guess if anyone is in the albany area i know of a few chins that need rehoming! males and females.

i hear ya! why do you think I have 9 (plus 1) I felt like I could save the world 1 chin at a time. but you cant. and realizing that is the first step! i missed that step. lol but now i am back on track. ;)

im really thinking about making the trip to get the free one if hes still available. but is there any way to kind of find out how Rocko would be with another chin before getting another one? I do have a second/smaller cage that I could put the new chin in for quarantining but i dont want them to fight. he has looked in a mirror before and it seemed like Rocko was confused and was trying to find the other chin. he would look in the mirror, then look behind it, run around, come back and look again and then look confused. but he didnt act mean towards the mirror but im not sure if he realized it was him or not.

Let me put this as nicely as possible...if you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet. So, if you don't have the money to buy them, what would you do in an emergency situation if they needed medical care?

No, there is no way to know. You'd have a 50/50 chance.

I know you want to help them all, but taking them from one bad situation and not being fully prepared could land them (and you) in another bad situation.

up here in igloo land, lol, there are quite a few chins for sale via kijiji. so many times i see them listed with a death ball that 'the chin loves to run around in'. grrrrrr........

i know my limits and i know i'm not financially able to save/care for/afford vet bills for all these chins from going from one bad owner to the next, so i email the sellers and tell them about death balls, and i give them CnH's site so they can forward it on to the new owner. i know it doesn't seem like much that i'm doing, but hopefully the new owners of those chins will come here and learn. knowledge is better than money, IMO, but you need to have the money to care for the chins.

ok ok you guys are right. ill def re-think about getting him. i love my little rocko and maybe he is all that i am supposed to have for now. school is ending soon so maybe ill end up picking up another day at work *its only 6 hours a day* and see what happens in the future. def no females tho! dont want no babies :) maybe someday i can rescue them!

for now, why don't you look into your local shelters, and see if they would like a hand with chin care at their facilities? you could go clean cages, socialize with the chins, get them used to being treated nicely, etc. that way you'd get your multiple chin fix without the financial obligation, and your local shelter would become more informed on proper chin care while reaping the benefits of a volunteer. that's what i've been considering, since my local spca always has at least a couple chins up for adoption.

just be sure to shower/change clothes/wash with antibacterial soap when you come home, before visiting with your own furbutt baby. don't want to run the risk of anything crossing over to him!

Yeah i know right?? When I got my last chin, they had him in the death ball and let him run around in their kitchen AROUND THE WOOD STOVE!!!

As if that thing wasnt hot enough.. :hair:

I was thinking about that before but im in a small town and all the humane societies around here do do more than dogs and cats but they never get anything other than cats and dogs. most people are like "what is a chinchilla?" or they will come over and they are like "what is that? is that real?" ill keep an eye out for places though.

When I got my chin the lady told me she mixed raisins in with his food because he loved them so and she knows some people are against it but really, he loves them so much! Oh, and his favorite past time according to his old owners? Rolling around the lawn in his death ball. Yes, they allowed him outside, in the summer, in his death ball. Can you imagine how hot that must have been?!

I'm in albany. I've been watching the ads on craiglist too. I'm working with my chinchillas first though. I've got two new ones to get calm and comfortable before I can pick up another one.
