I heard through the chinchilla grapevine here in the bay area about a feed store about 15 miles away from me that had good bales of hay, so I go to check it out and scored. They had bales of alfafa and bales of orchard/timmy mix so I get two bales and then went to poke around the store and notice they have Nutrena feeds, sure enough they have 50 lb bags of the 16% rabbit feed so I get that also-the local pet store stopped selling oxbow products on a regular basis so I decided then to switch feeds since I heard good things about it. So for 1 bale of alfalfa, 1 bale of timmy/orchard and 50lbs of nutrena set me back 43.50! House smells like a barn now with the bales in my living room but for that price I will deal with it!

Ugh - hate you..................

I live in the middle of freaking hay country and can't get hay. Congrats on YOUR score though.

Congrats on scoring in the middle of San Jose of all places! Didn't realize you're in the bay area, Dawn... I wanna come to a photo shoot sometime. ;)

Congrats on your score. I would have been tempted to get 2 bales of hay.

I've had such a hard time getting decent hay, I've resorted to having the 50 lb boxes of Oxbow timmy ordered for me when we get our wholesale orders.

Woot! I love that I can get Nutrena at my feed store! and it's so close. they even tipped me to a farmer who had timmothy hay so I got a bale of that too. the hay and shavings are in my bedroom closet. Good thing I don't have to wear my dress up clothes for work anymore lol!

Congrats!!

Congrats!
I just found the most fantastic timmy hay for $5 a bale. I have been buying hay for 30 years and this is the best I've ever seen. I almost want to make a salad and eat it myself! I think I will get some more and ship it to my chin buds, I'll post it later.

Nice! What feed store is it? It has been hit or miss on good timmy hay the last few trips to my feed store here. If they have good grass hay there, I might stop by next month when I'm in San Jose!

Sam's feed store on San Carlos st. They had a display of it right at the front door, it was funny they wanted you to smell and feel the sample hay bale!

Are you kidding? Not only did you get some good chinnie food for a great price but for me the BONUS is the house smells like a barn. I love the smell of a clean barn and of fresh hay and pellets. :dance3:

That's great! It's always wonderful to get a good deal on hay. Sometimes the bales get pretty pricey around here for decent timothy hay, so I always appreciate a little price break. :)

My house always smells like hay, I don't mind it at all. It's better than it smelling like kitty cats or stinky potpourri. hehehe
