Slivers in Ears?

Hi all,

Since Ive Adopted Wally last Week, I had switched him from pine shavings to yesterday's news. But when I got him, I noticed his ears weren't round, they had little bumps all the way around their edge that were the same color as his ears. so I figured something was deteriorating them but didn't know what and his previous owner said theyve Been like that as long as they can remember

Well , I just gave Wally a bath and he was letting me touch his face. I rubbed his ear and a bump came off. It looked Fiberous like wood but darker than pine. I was wondering if it is possible that he had many tiny slivers around his ears?

He got a lot friendlier after I started pulling them out. Would it be advisable to polysporin the tops of his ears?

Vaseline is usually best for that, it will help all of the buildup came off. If you use polysporin make sure it is the regular kind, not the kind with the painkillers in it.

Agreed, it was probably gunk from the substrate bedding that you were able to remove, rather than embedded slivers.

Something like vaseline or bag balm on the edges of his ears may help if they're looking tattered. But, no, you probably don't need neo- or poly-sporin. If you do use either, make sure they're regular strength -- just like Raindog said

Thanks goes out to both of you. Wally's ears are a lot better now. And he's becoming quite the gentleman. No more balling and quilling up but a bit of hisses every now and then.

Would Vaseline help if his quills are poking his ears every now?
