So I've been noticing that when Gizmo comes out to play and tires himself out, he buries himself under the blanket and will go to sleep. Since we keep him by the window where the air conditioner is, the sunlight is always coming through. Is there a safe way to give him artificial darkness? He has a hidey house and a hammock, and I don't want to wrap anything around his cage so that airflow is restricted.

Does anyone else have a darkened spot for their chinchilla to sleep in other than inside a hidey house? Any ideas would be appreciated : )

I have fabric that hangs down only the back of my cage to prevent them peeing on the wall... Could you do the same? I think the cage has plenty of ventilation with only one side blocked.

he either completely ignores it or kind of has this "omg where am i" look on his face when he miraculously lands in his hammock haha

Hehe my chin was like that too for the longesy time with her hammock. Since I made and sewed it myself, I opened it up and put a peice of hard cardboard in. When I woke up the next day, she was sleeping in it :D

I have 2 sides of my FN cages covered. I dont feel this restricts airflow. It minimizes hair in the air and prevents peed on walls. They all seem to like it too, as they were mad when I removed them to be washed.

You know, I thought about doing this. I can tell he wants to try sleeping in it, but the lack of something sturdy inside the fleece makes him feel insecure. Maybe I'll try that! Thanks for bringing this up!

Your welcome! I hope your little fuzzball likes it!

Oh man I wish I could see that. Gizmo took right to the hammock after we just put him in it. He snuck in there the first time, though, because he didn't want us to think he liked it -too- much.
