I saw that this morning on the news, at first I was like "I dont see anything different" then I counted and sure enough there were six fingers on both hands and six toes on both feet. Very neat!

Wow, that is really cool. I hope he does something and is amazing at it like piano or football like they suggest- to really show what he can do. A special little boy indeed. I am glad the parents are keeping the extras!

Are the parents debating on keeping the extras or not? I feel terrible he'd be pressured into doing something amazing just because of them. Guess he'll be wearing mittens, too.

He is very lucky to have them look so normal!

Very interesting, I'll agree, you wouldn't even really notice if you didn't count, I know I had to look twice. That's really amazing that he has them on both hands and feet.

I will agree though that he probably will get made fun of by other kids for being different. I have a port wine stain birthmark covering 4 of my 5 fingers and part of my palm on my right hand and was constantly teased about it as a child and everyone is always asking "What happened to your hand?". I hope he embraces his uniqueness and doesn't get picked on as it can be hard as a kid.

Sadly, it probably will happen. I have a mole/birthmark on my arm and in grade school the kids would ask why I had a "poop stain" on my arm. Then they'd plug there noses and say eww it even smells like poop. It's tramatizing and so sad kids are like that.

Yeah, it is sad how kids can be mean when someone is different. It really bugged me as a kid. I don't care so much anymore, but when I first met my boyfriend, I was rather shy about my hand knowing that many people find it weird. And when I broke one of my fingers on that hand and he wanted to look at the finger, I never wanted him inspecting that hand. All from just being teased as a kid. Dumb reason I know, but it's hard.

Didn't mean to turn the thread into another discussion lol

My friend's baby has uh... 3 fingers on each hand and I think 3 or 4 on each foot. They call her their ninja turtle baby...

I think that if the parents have a sense of humor and raise their child to have one then they can take the verbal abuse from kids. I am all for it as long as it's not to the point of poking fun at.

My friends baby had a brain surgery and had stitches from behind one ear across the top of the head to the other ear. He is now dubbed "Frankenbaby"

Went through middle and high school with a guy that had four fingers on each hand, he played the trumpet.

I don't recall anyone every bothering him about them.

I had more of an issue when I was really young, like from preschool to 4th grade. Now I only get comments like oh, what happened, or did you spill paint on your hand. Dumb comments mostly. I've always wanted to say something to make the person feel bad for taking the liberty to ask, because having been asked my whole life, I would rather people not ask if I don't know you. It's just rather annoying. Thankfully it hasn't happened in probably a year, but sometimes at stores cashiers will ask me, and I don't feel as though it's their place to say anything.

I do hope that he doesn't have any problems as it isn't right for people to poke fun or comment on people's differences.

I had to take another look to see it! Had to actually count the fingers out. Very hard to tell unless you are really concentrate

I understand, I started out that way but changed later on. I spent seven years working with severe special needs kids. They taught me a heck of a lot; People who don't ask don't know. Not knowing creates fear and discrimination. These guys will run when your charge is having a seizure or let a door slam on you, completely ignore you or shove you out of the way.

People who do ask, or look and nod are curious, they want to know because they are passionate people. They are the ones that hold doors for you, assist you and will help you with directions, or are willing call 911. I prefer these types.

Two sides of the coin. Strangely enough, I never took any **** from any kids at school for working with them. I got hounded on for having (and supposedly smelling like) cows. We were the only family in that school that had livestock.

To this day I'm sure there's people out there that think cows smell like Vidal Sassoon and Dial. :D

Actually, this extra finger can cause more problems and can interfere in the wrong way when trying to do things. There was a documentary on that (Yes, I love weird documentaries like that, sigh. Lol) and surgery can also be risky in the case that the whole hand is left paralised.

I think they should let him keep them all...if they're functioning, let them be. He'll be a heck of a typist or pianist :) It would look worse if they removed them....they're all perfect fingers and toes :) If they were non functional, I could see removing them, but if it aint broke..don't fix it is what I always say :)

I agree, i also think his hands & feet would more than likely look 'stranger' after the amputations verses with them. I'd keep them unless they werent functional or caused a problem in some way.

I agree, Dont remove them! I had to count the fingers too, and then i was like "what there's 5 fingers..." I forgot to count the thumb... LOL
