got a baby chinchilla (4 months) to mate with my 1 1/2 year old chinchilla when she is ready at 8 months, giving her time to adjust to new environment and my male chinchilla, problem is from what ive noticed is she really hasnt been eating the chinchilla food i give her and she is having mushy poops, as well as not using her wheel and staying in a corner in her cage almost all day, she still drinks her water, which is good, and when i let her out of the cage she seems ok, but the not eating thing is upsetting me, is there anything i can do to maybe make her eat and use her wheel?

First, Is she in the same cage as the male or does she play with him. If so, you need to keep them separated until she is at least 8 months old.

Next, remove the wheel. Kits under 6 months should not have a wheel. They need to use all of their calories for growing and not for running like a little maniac on the wheel.

Now, How long have you had her? Most chinchillas will not eat or drink much for the first few days. They can also have problems with mushy poos during this time due to stress.

Do the poos smell? If the poos smell, you should probably take her to the vet. Smelly poos are not caused by stress and may require prescription medications to clear up.

Pull the pellets for a few days. Stop any an all treats for a few weeks. The poo should firm up. If it does, you can reintroduce the pellets. Things don't improve take her to the vet.

Two things? What water are you giving her and what brand of pellets? I ask because these could be a factor.

my Female and Male chinchilla are in 2 cages, each on different sides of the room, and separated by an entertainment system (that i hardly use) but i didnt want him antagonizing her

Wheel has now been removed (thanks for the info ^_^)

ive had her for a week today

poo is not smelly

so im taking out her main food source and her treats? (things i have in her cage food wise are: timothy hay, orchard grass, lava bite ledge, chinchilla food, and a box o' hay) ((she uses her lava bite ledge, but barely even looks at the rest))

i use Chinchilla Food from Petsmart, and i have an Ionic Water Filter that i use, so its fresh clean water

Yes, pull the pellets and treats, and feed only hay for several days.

Also, you can try Kaolin pectin (anti-diarrhea formula available at pet stores).

Unfortunately, there are feeds at PetSmart that are not good for chinchillas. What brand did you select? What is the mill date?

You were asked about the filter because not all filters remove microbial cysts like giardia and cryptosporidium.

I need to ask: is this something I should be concerned about? I found this on Lilly's tile when I cleaned her cage a little bit agouploadfromtaptalk1348015274920.jpg

BTW....the color in that last photo is off. Nothing was red or "bloody" looking.
