Don't really know if this is an emergency... but my daughter painted some portraits of the chinnies for her school's art fair. The hubby thought it looked cute to rest their portraits above their cages. I didn't really think twice about it, or I would have removed them. Of course, the chinnies saw the pictures as fun new toys. Chelsea ate quite a bit off of the bottom of her portrait. I'm not only worried about the canvas and possibility of impaction, but the acrylic paint that was used. I attached pictures so you can see the amount that was chewed; there is quite a big strip along the bottom of the painting. What should I watch for and is there anything I should do for her?

Just watch the poops. Make sure She keeps pooping. She should be fine. Mostly they just chew without swallowing.

I know that certain colors like orange can contain harmful componants but I would think you'd have seen a reaction. I would keep a close eye on them for a day or two.

Hopefully they just shredded the canvas to get to the wood and will be just fine.

Of course the part she chewed on was orange! But I took her out for playtime last night and she acted normal. Saw quite a few good sized poops during playtime and on her shelves this morning. I'll continue to observe but hoping this means she's okay. Phew! Thanks for the help!

She would have shown signs of illness if the paint were toxic. Luckily most paint is now non toxic and the canvas is also non toxic. The frame was kiln dried pine otherwise it could warp so at least it's a safe wood. I'm so happy that they showed not sign of illness.

I forgot to say before because I was worried about your girls but I loved your daughter's painting. It's really beautiful and I love her work more than I do many of the painters on eBay and etsy.
