My dog has been sick the past few days. Well, she went to the bathroom on a present my dad's brother gave him. It was impossible to clean. My dog destroyed it :/ I hid it from my dad. My dad had left it on the floor for weeks. I don't think he will know it is missing for a while. It was a train magazine from 1960. If he finds out he will get angry to the point he yells and threatens to get rid of my dog. He will also continue to bring it up for months. He holds things over my head and will not be forgiving about it. I went on eBay and ordered the same copy of the magazine from the same year. In all honesty I doubt my dad will be able to tell the difference. Should I just pass off the replacement as the same one his brother gave him? Or be truthful?

Tough call.

I'm a "do the right thing" kind of gal, so I think that I would tell him and let him know that you are in the process of replacing it. In my family growing up, we were never punished for telling the truth, but we were for lying about something. Honesty usually IS the best policy, I have found.

I think you should tell him the truth. Honesty is usually the best route to take. And you did order another copy, so nothing got lost, right? lol

Yeah, lies have a way of being found out. I would wait till the new one arrives. He has yelled before and he will yell again, you'll survive it until you can live your life on your own, which hopefully will be soon. How is the doggy doing?

I think I'll defiantly wait until I have a new one in my hands. It would be worse to admit anything without a replacement.

i would tell him right away, and tell him that there is a replacement coming. if he happens to ask where the magazine is before the new one comes, he will be even more angry with you for hiding/not coming forward with what happened.

I think that everyone who is saying to tell him right away has never dealt with a person like that. Truth is, if the magazine was so valuable to him why did he leave it on the floor in the bathroom?

Personally he has some underlying issues as it sounds like he's going to blame you for his irresponsibility. If the magazine was so valuable to me I wouldn't leave it on the floor. If you ordered the same magazine, I'd wait until it gets there before telling him.

Good news is... at least your dog sounds like he's "paper train"ed!

I'm with Riven on this. I've got a few family members that I'd replace the object and put it in the same place and never say a word. Some people you just can't do right by.

If that's the case and you're still living at home and it keeps the peace, then that is what you are going to have to do.

Good luck!

Ditto. Honesty is best, but if I knew that it was going to held over my head for years to come, I'd just buy a replacement. Before forgetting about it on the floor again, I'd make some sort of comment about that "special" magazine on the floor and how that's not the most responsible place to keep it. That's just me, though. I tend to be kinda snarky.

Lol, I told him about it. He said I didn't have to replace it! To late! I went to Walmart and bought a frame and framed it. Although knowing my dad it will STILL end up on the floor!

and then one day, the frame will fall on yer dog, and he won't know whether to tell you or replace............
