Should I move my chins?

Currently, my chins live at my boyfriend's house. But this year his dad decided to save some money by not turning on the AC. We have an AC window unit in the chin room, but lately it has been so hot that it just BARELY keeps the room under 77 degrees. It also makes it impossible to take them out for playtime, since their room is the only cool room in the house, and they can't play in there. I feel so guilty for not taking them out as often as I'd like :( His dad is also really stubborn, so there is no convincing him to turn the AC on.
So I have been debating whether or not to take them to my house. I know it would be better for them because we have our AC on, and I'd be able to take them out to play. They would live in my basement because my dog doesn't go down there. The only problem is my brother has a drumset. Honestly I haven't heard him play in months, but he claims to when nobody is home. I can't imagine how freaked out the chins would be if he started playing drums! I asked him to let me know when he wanted to play so I could take the chins to a different room, but the drums are really loud throughout the house, so they would probably still be scared. And then I know my dog would go crazy if I brought them upstairs. She likes to eat little animals.
I'm really at a loss as to what I should do! What do you guys think?

I think the noise would be much better than a dead chin or chins from heatstroke. That is too hot, I freak at 74! The humidity makes it worse, and the summer is still coming strong. The noises they will get used to. Imagine wearing a fur coat in 80 degree weather! I get hot in pajamas in 73 or above so imagine the chins would too. Plus they are so active!

That is very true. The room hasn't gotten any hotter than 74 (yet), so I wanted to move them before it gets any hotter. I was just worried the loud noises might stress them out.

I agree with Chinniechantel, take them to your house but please make sure the dog doesn't get downstairs, yikes.

She usually doesn't go downstairs, but I would keep the door shut at all times, just in case. It doesn't latch though, so I'm hoping she won't try to get down there when she knows the chins are there.

I would buy a baby gate, but be careful, I once broke my arm really bad tripping over a babygate!

Oh dear! I don't want to break any more bones. I didn't know baby gates could be so dangerous. I'll be sure to get one though.

I'd be thinking a larger air conditioner, blocking off the bottom of the door and a cardboard playpen, rather than a unlatched basement with humidity, loud drums, and a chin-eating dog upstairs!
The bedroom isn't perfect, but to me, moving them in this heat, into "the wolfs den" is worse!

Hahaha another good point. The AC we are using is pretty old, so that might have something to do with it. But I still don't think I'd be able to take them out in the room they are in. It's a very small guest bedroom turned storage room, so the bed takes up half of the room, and the chinchilla cage and supplies takes up another corner, which makes only about 1/4 of the room accessible. After blocking everything off I'm not sure I'd have more than two feet in each direction.

Stand the bed up, or on it's side, and you'll have plenty of room!
Better yet - take the bed into the basement!!

The bed is piled with junk, and there would be nowhere to put it in the basement.. and considering it's not my house, I'm not sure I want to find a new place for the bed, a desk and a rocking chair, among other things, especially if we'll be moving out soon.
Sorry if I sound like I'm shooting down your idea, because I would totally do it if it were my house and my belongings.

I'm just shooting ideas - a new, larger a/c would probably be more efficient, hence cheaper to run!
I guess playtime in the bathroom is all you've left - good luck!

Yeah, I don't know what your money situation is, but I would definitely look into getting a better window unit first. If you can't do that, then I would move them to your house. The drums might scare them at first, but the heat will kill them for sure.

That is very true. The room hasn't gotten any hotter than 74 (yet), so I wanted to move them before it gets any hotter. I was just worried the loud noises might stress them out.

My recommendation would be to keep them in the same room they are in and invest in a stronger window unit. I live in Florida, and it's been in the 100's for the past week and I am still able to keep it 68 in the room, even with the energy saver setting on (where the unit turns on and off like a central AC unit). Mine is a 6500 BTU and it easily cools a 12x15 (not ginormous) bedroom. My husband also has his gaming computer in there (nicknamed "The Furnace") and we are still able to keep it cool. I found my window unit on craigslist for $35.00, so there are definitely reasonable deals to be found while also solving your heat issue.

Alright, thanks for the help everyone. I guess buying a new AC unit would make the most sense.
