Howdy,

I have an old Quality Cage chin mansion, and I'm thinking of switching to the FN142 that everyone seems to like so much. My hubby thinks it looks nicer and all that, so we're going to give it a try. My only question is - what does everyone use for shelf guards, if anything at all? My QC cage has the guards in - you know, the metal strips that help keep the poo in the cage instead of sending it flying out through the bars? I'd want something similar to help contain the mess.

Also, I can't tell for sure from the pictures - are the shelves and bases in the FN cages made out of plastic?

Thanks!!

The shelves that comes in the FN are metal trimmed plastic shelves. They will either need a slip cover made from fleece or to be taken out/not put in at all. You can always put in lots of KD Pine shelves and leaping ledges and have lots of fun decorating it without those things in there anyway. :)

I put a piece of quarter round on all of the outside edges of my shelves to help minimize the amount of poos that were on shelves making it to my floor. It has helped tremendously without being obtrusive.

I got something like hardware cloth. But it was for gutters. The only thing is that it breaks easily when bent and the edges are sharp, but we rolled the tops down and it's working ok... I don't think that anything will make the poos stop flying out of the cage.

I'm not looking for the poop to stop completely - just something to slow it down. :) The quarter round is a great idea too...I'm so excited!

i am having the same problem
and was wondering if you could buy something to go inside the cage
please give me a hint to what to do

If you make wooden shelves, you can put a "border" around them with smaller pieces of wood. I did this on mine, but it doesn't truly keep the mess in, as they fling it off the shelf when they bounce around. Tipping them downward helped.
